  1. General Mouthpiece Discussion
I've been looking into getting a new mouthpiece for my alto as of late; more specifically, a Vandoren V16. I play on Vandoren Java Greens/ZZ 2.5 strength and want to stick with them since they've worked the best for me. Currently, I play on a Yamaha 4C, but the tone is way too bright for me, so...
  2. General Mouthpiece Discussion
I've been looking into a better mpc for my alto as of late, and have been looking into a Vandoren V16. Currently, I play on a Yamaha 4C with 2.5 Java Greens/ZZ reeds, which has a very bright tone, and I'm trying to go for something on the warmer side. I'm hoping to stick with 2.5 Greens/ZZs, but...
  3. Tenor mpc
hi, i am playing a vandoren V16 T77 metal tenor mpc. under the believe of any consistency or similarity, i ordered a (new) vandoren V16 T8 ebonite mpc. this mouthpiece does not really sounds alike the metal T77 one. does anybody have any recommendation for a tenor hr/ebonite mpc with somewhat...
  4. Reeds
I'm looking to find some free blowing REEDS that I can use for concert band, jazz band, and contemporary church band. I am currently debating on the Vandoren ZZ's or the Vandoren V16's or the Javas (red or green). Which is more free blowing and which one will give me better intonation? Which one...
  5. Alto mpc
I bought a Vandoren V16 (A5 medium chamber) almost ten years ago, and I noticed it doesn't have the metal ring around the shank like I see on the ones being sold today. Two questions: Does the ring do anything? Are there any other differences between the old ones and the current ones? Thanks.
  6. Tenor mpc
I love the reasonable price of V16 !! I would like to buy one for my main or second mpc. I am looking for big openings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXoL10lC-WQ&feature=relmfu I am wondering if V16 can sing like Bob's tone in the video. As I know, Bob uses Slant #9. Please let me hear...
  7. Baritone mpc
Hi everybody. What do you think about the Pillinger mpc for baritone sax? I play with a Berg Larsen and OL (both metal), but I am looking another sound for jazz (more vintage, dark), and I think on a Pillinger mpc, and also Vandoren V16. What dou you think? Thanks
  8. Reeds
Hey everyone, I went to a a5s a couple months back from a Meyer 5 for jazz music. I'm looking for a new type of reed to replace my Rico royal 2.5. I've been playing for almost 12 years and am leading a jazz band. My chops aren't the strongest though for endurance for some reason. I tried...
  9. Reeds
Could anyone enlighten me about how Alexander reeds compare to Vandoren reeds? Not the strength - I know that Alexanders run about half a strength softer, if my memory serves me right - but in the quality (sound, response). I have played Vandoren Traditionals, V16's, ZZ's, and Java Reds, so...
  10. Tenor mpc
So I picked up my first V16 metal mouthpiece in college - I traded my buddy a 110 berg for his T75. I've had for probably 7 years at this point, and unfortunately I didn't take care of it as I should have and its pretty beat up. Anyway, the question: do you guys feel a mouthpiece goes through...
  11. Tenor mpc
I have recently purchased a Vandoren Optimum LC08P ligature. I have a Vandoren V16 T6 HB mouthpiece. It seems to me the ligature is a tight fit on this mouthpiece, once the reed (RJS) is in place, it only needs a small turn before becoming tight. Is that normal? I'm 99% sure I've got the right...
  12. Alto mpc
Long time listener-First time caller. After 30+ years of playing tenor, much of that time making a living at it, I've decided to switch to alto. Two years ago I purchased a Barone Classic (unfortunatey it didn't come with one of his renowned mpcs!) and a Vandoren A5S. Being relatively new to...
  13. Reeds
i'm just trying to get all my reeds straight, and some help would be great!
  14. Tenor mpc
Howdy, Who is using the Vandoren V16 tenor mouthpiece? What are your experiences with it? I'm currently using one in T9 (116 tip opening, medium-long facing if I recall correctly), with an Alexander NY 2.5 reed. It's being played 95% of the time on my Yani 900u. I quite like the sound from...
  15. Tenor mpc
Hello all - I have recently been able to get my hands on a Vandoren Metal V16 T95 mouthpiece i na trade for one of my alto pieces. Seems liek a great piece that has a focused sound. I am curious though that I have read that the T75 has a different feel/sound to it. Can anyone confirm or deny...
  16. Baritone mpc
I've been looking forward to trying the V16 for bari for quite some time now. I have been using the tenor V16 T8 for about a year, and I've found it to be one of the best pieces I have tried, especially considering the price. I have never been entirely happy with my bari setup, and I thought I...
  17. Tenor mpc
I tried out a vandoren v16 t75 today and completely loved it. Tone was almost exactly what I was looking for. Before I buy, I was just wondering to be safe whether there are any advantages of the other size options, particulary the t77, which I understand has a slightly larger tip opening and a...
  18. Mouthpiece Maintenance, Modification & Refacing
Alright. My main piece for jazz on alto is my V16. It's got a great sound, but recently it's gotten a little shrill and chirpy. I hope i'm past the point where chirping is caused by my playing. :| I understand it's a factory made piece, so it's bound to have some imperfections. Do I need a...
