So, I was lucky enough to pick up a recent V16 T9 metal piece "Large Chamber" for a silly price.
- For those that don't know, the Large chamber is marketed as a 1940's style mouthpiece -
I have always wanted to see how these things play, and although a 9 is outside my comfort zone it is a...
I've been looking into getting a new mouthpiece for my alto as of late; more specifically, a Vandoren V16. I play on Vandoren Java Greens/ZZ 2.5 strength and want to stick with them since they've worked the best for me. Currently, I play on a Yamaha 4C, but the tone is way too bright for me, so...
I've been looking into a better mpc for my alto as of late, and have been looking into a Vandoren V16. Currently, I play on a Yamaha 4C with 2.5 Java Greens/ZZ reeds, which has a very bright tone, and I'm trying to go for something on the warmer side. I'm hoping to stick with 2.5 Greens/ZZs, but...

I bought a Vandoren V16 (A5 medium chamber) almost ten years ago, and I noticed it doesn't have the metal ring around the shank like I see on the ones being sold today. Two questions:
Does the ring do anything?
Are there any other differences between the old ones and the current ones?
I love the reasonable price of V16 !!
I would like to buy one for my main or second mpc.
I am looking for big openings.
I am wondering if V16 can sing like Bob's tone in the video.
As I know, Bob uses Slant #9.
Please let me hear...
