Alright, so who's ever played on the street, subway station, etc.? I don't have a band, and would like to make some extra cash. Does it really work? Do people actually give you money? Where are the best places to do it? What's the best way to bring in max cash flow? What other good tips do you have?

There's a subway trio in New York, 2 tenors and a drum kit, you have to see. They're called Moon Hooch and they're drawing crowds on the bedford and union station platforms. Big upbeat funky jazz sound. Quite a few youtube posts worth a look...

I found this poignant film on the Guardian's website today. I hope people around the world can watch this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/video/2010/sep/13/kalaparusha-maurice-mcintyre-horn-starvation-box It shows him busking on the NYC subway and in rehearsals, plus some footage from home.
