  1. Alto mpc
I"ve been playing alto for about five years, and I was looking for a jazz mouthpiece recently this past summer. I picked up the Meyer 5M, and I really am not liking its sound. So I was doing some mouthpiece shopping, and I found the Rico Metalite. Does anyone know anything about this...

I heard Rico is not longer owned by D'Addario....Where did they go? I have been playing Orange Rico's for 30 years, tried almost the other brands...If Rico dissappears i have a serious problem... Anybody knows anything about this?

Any good? I use the legere SS on alto, but on baritone i played rico royals and vandoren traditionals, to me at least synthetics are WAY better, cane never bothered me on baritone, but i've heard the baritone reeds on legere aren't as good as the others.

Hello reader, I've heard great things about Rico Plasticover reeds but I haven't had the chance to purchase a box. If anyone has any experience with Plasticovers, feel free to state your opinion on them and if possible, can you describe the way they differ from standard cane reeds? Thanks for...

This is my first "real" recording with the M60 - at least it's a real song. I don't have a good mic, yet - I used a very old Samson wireless unit that records with some hum. I used a Metalite M9 with a Vandoren ZZ 2 1/2 reed. The name of the song is "Warriors" and I'm posting it, "warts and...

Got a very old box of 2-1/2 Rico with an old tenor (closet horn) I bought recently. Only tried one but the tone was very dull and they taste like cellar dust. Is it worth trying more? Or should I just put them up on ebay, see if a collector wants them? They are "V cut" whatever the hell that...
  7. What to Buy & Why: Reeds and Misc.
I am a clarinet player of 3 years now, running a great V12 strength 4 with a VanDoren M-30 profile 88 setup. BUT THAT'S IRRELEVANT. I think. I started soprano back in March. I used the stock reeds and am still using the stock mouthpiece. I got some 3 Rico oranges but they were too hard, now...

Hi! I'm Mizael, I live in Puerto Rico and have been playing sax and flute for approximately 10 years. I mainly play Tenor, but I also own a Soprano and an Alto, and also hope to get a Baritone soon. I created this thread so the members of this excellent forum can share opinions, I based the...

I have always played Link metal pieces on tenor (despite having tried just about everything else...the love/hate thing). Other than the one Harrison original that came with a piece I bought from Theo W >10 years ago, I have generally used Selmer 404 and 402 pieces, and have learned to modify...
  10. Tenor mpc
I'm a new SOTW member, I have been playing Alto since 4th grade (4 years), and have now started playing tenor at my band director's request. I am now a high school freshman, and after auditions, 2nd Alto (out of 8) in concert band, and 1st Tenor in jazz band. My band director ordered a tenor...
  11. Baritone mpc
So I played the Bari in 8th Grade for Jazz Band and had a lot of fun. I am now in 10th grade and want to play the Bari in my Jazz Improv class and my Jazz Band. As I haven't played the Bari a lot, could you please help me decide on which mouthpiece to buy? There are three options (I'll provide...
