Now that things are opening back up, where are folks going to hear and perform jazz in NYC? Now that Smalls realized they can charge $50 a set I don’t see them going back to a $10/$20 door cover… I believe Fat Cat is closed now and the Standard doesn’t have anything on the books yet.
Happy (almost) New Year! Here's a video featuring the Boardwalk Jazz Band playing the classic "Auld Lang Syne" live at the Triad Theater in New York City. This features Cassandra Kubinski on vocals and Hiruy (Henry) Tirfe on tenor saxophone. I hope you dig it, and have a great start to the new year!
This is going to be my first time doing this and hopefully not the last, so we'll see how it goes. I'll be playing at Shrine World Music Venue in Manhattan (NYC) tomorrow night (Thursday August 30th) at 7pm EST with my buddy Dominic Palombi's band. We'll be doing a mix of...
Hey everyone! Back again with another new video. This one is from a recent gig with my quartet at Silvana in NYC. It's "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but there's a catch - it's IN FIVE! Hope you dig it, and let me know what you think! #makejazzfunagain
Here's a video of a brand new tune of mine, called "Finally." I think the name really fits, as my mom has been on my case about writing her a tune forever now (I have tunes for my wife, dad, and even couple friends...doh).
This is from a gig last night at Club Bonafide in NYC...
I posted a clip of this tune before, but here's the full song in all it's YouTube glory! The band is the Dan Rufolo Quartet, and the tune is "A Glimmer of What's to Come" composed by Dan. Also features Marty Kenney on bass, Philippe Lemm on drums, and myself on saxophone. Live @...
Here's a recording from a recent gig at Cornelia St. Café (NYC). Recorder is right in front of me, so that's why the balance is jacked up. (If you've ever played there you know the space)
It's a tune my buddy wrote called "A Glimmer of What's to Come." Recording starts on my solo...
I had a day off in the city and had been wanting to try the Ishimori Woodstone tenor mouthpiece, so I went to Roberto's on a lark. I was a little skeptical as the prices in their Mark VI room are the stuff of legend. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly young man who set me up in a...

Hi all ... I'm new to the forum but based on some posts and searches, I had some questions I hope someone can weigh in on:
I have an early 50's Selmer SBA (matching 49,xxx s/n) that belonged to my grandfather. I used to play a little clarinet and sax when I was in my teens. I'll probably never...
