I'm new to this forum and hence this is my first post. I've played recorder as a kid and did all my exams to the point that I had to choose another instrument to continue (which I never did until last year). I'm thus fairly new to saxophone playing and took some classes last year in...
I've recently started playing a lot of saxofon - (5 hours a day sometimes) - and my lower lip suffers from that - i get bitemarks because of the ambrosure and i just wondered if you have any tricks that could spare my lower lip, like a biteplate? Paper? I don't know?
I think I have a selmar mouth piece (black plastic) and I'm interested in the metal mouth pieces. I've seen some other saxophones in my school use metal but I don't know anything about them. What would be the advantage of metal over plastic?
I found a mouthpiece at a garage sale and was hoping maybe it was worth something.
It's a hard rubber alto sax mouthpiece.
It has an eagle on the back with trade on the left of it and mark on the right.
It's designed like a Rashcer but I doubt it is.
Any ideas, let me know!
My son is a 5th grade student just starting up with the alto saxophone. He is really enjoying playing so far, and being a long time band guy myself (clarinet), my wife and I want to support and encourage him. Christmas gifts will include a neckstrap, music stand and metronome.
We got a Jupiter...
