  1. Bb Tenor
Not long ago I made a thread talking about my decision to buy either a Selmer Mark VII or a Cannonball vintage reborn. As you can see I got neither, as my opinion was swayed by literally one youtube video (Link below) and I fell in love instantly. I took to Reverb and found a nice looking...

Hi, I am trying a Slant Tone Edge (seems and was told is vintage), which sounds incredible despite chipped tip. While trying to identify the piece, there are two aspects that are intriguing and I have not been able to find an answer to explain them despite extensive search. First , it has a...
  3. Tenor mpc
I recently acquired my first tenor (having played only alto and bari) and have been struggling with tuning and intonation. The horn is a 1953 Pan American that I won in an auction and immediately sent to George Jacobs (Jayelid here on SOTW - great guy to deal with btw) and the horn is in good...
  4. General Mouthpiece Discussion
Would appreciate everybody’s input on this mouthpiece. Slightly slimmer body then a slant signature I have. Do you think this is a Florida or a Babbit? Pleasant surprise in a horn I just purchased. First post here. Thanks for your opinion.

  6. Bb Tenor
I gig for a living. I've gone through a number of tenors, Conn (fireworks), Selmer Modele 26, Pan American (back up horn), Mark VI, Bundy (back up horn), Mark VII, Couf Superba II, Grassi Prestiege, and MacSax classic. The MacSax I had custom finished with 2 coats of silver colored nickel for...

https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/saxophon-mundstueck-otto-link-metall-tenor-florida/925882805-74-1012 I know the guy who's offering the Florida STM and have already mailed him: the box is an earlier NY STM box (I told him so), and the screw of the ligature (no engraving, this he told...
  8. General Mouthpiece Discussion
I'm digging a bit deeper into the history of my favourite mouthpieces: I own a Tonemaster from the 40s as well as Double Rings from the early (NY) and late (Florida) 50s. My pieces have lost the gold plating, but I find there is brass underneath. I have learned about the geometry of the...

  11. What to Buy & Why: Mouthpieces
Hi guys, Has anyone had a chance to sample both of these mpcs? How do they compare against each other? Thanks in advance.
  12. Évaluation de produits et de détaillants
This is an amazing Reso 7* in really great condition. It has been expertely refaced by the great Eric Falcon, probably one of the best refaces out there The work that Eric did on this piece is outstanding. Plays easy with a full, warm and vibrant sound in the whole register of the horn. Think...
  13. Ligatures
I have always played Link metal pieces on tenor (despite having tried just about everything else...the love/hate thing). Other than the one Harrison original that came with a piece I bought from Theo W >10 years ago, I have generally used Selmer 404 and 402 pieces, and have learned to modify...
  14. Tenor mpc
Wanted to share... This is one of two vintage Otto's I discovered during a used buy I did this weekend. The horn was a Big B tenor circa 1926. The otto's were stuffed in a bag with random ligatures, cracked moutpieces, about 20 reeds akimbo, several swabs, and other detritus. I did a vinegar...
  15. Alto mpc
Is it similar to an STM link? I've been looking for a open chamber, low baffle metal piece for alto The reason I am saying metal is because I am comfortable with the way it feels especially with the new emboucher my teacher made me use (I'm glad he did!), hard rubber feels awakward for me now...
  16. Tenor mpc
Hi great pals, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDA1C9FK-XI I am curious what tip opening of the link he had used in the video. I'm about to order a refacing job for my STM that the opening is 6. Thanks!
  17. General Mouthpiece Discussion
I have a problem with my Florida Link.....Like all Florida's the laquer has come of, now for the first time the oxidation, the green/blue stuff, is making it impossible to play. I taste it and the stuff is really poison. If i leave the reed on it gets blue. I now try to coat it with blanco nail...
  18. Tenor mpc
hey guys will be buying a new mouthpiece sometime very soon. whenever i want actually. i have the money just don't know what to buy. very seriously contemplating the new drake mouthpiece coming out next month (his "stubbie" model). http://www.drakemouthpieces.com/Drake_Metal_Mouthpieces.html...
  19. Ligatures
Got sick and tired of original lig on my Florida Link. Got hold of a new Rovner Platinum. It makes a huge difference; fits great. Despite all the badmouthing re Rovners -- though maybe not about Platinum -- I'm very happy with the way it's playing on my Mark VI. Others?
  20. Mouthpiece Maintenance, Modification & Refacing
Hi there! I play tenor and I recently switched to a Guardala MBII (refaced by Dave Jary) from a Florida Otto Link 6... I like the Guardala a lot more, because it suits my style a lot better and gives me a more modern, bright sound. But that's besides the point. I still love my Florida Link...
