I purchased C melody saxophone for my son’s first instrument. It was sold to me at a pon shop as a tenor sax. The instrument was manufactured in Elkhorn, Wisconsin and has the serial number 12125 LP. The instrument is in great shape and has all new felts and pads. I’m interested in selling but...

I was recently gifted a holton Trombone model number 157. I've searched by both serial and model number trying to learn a little more about my instrument but have hit a dead end. Any sites I should be checking?

I took my recently acquired 233 alto to the tech today to get it up and running and, aside from it needing quite a bit of work, he said he was reluctant to even work on it since it doesn't have the right neck. I'm not proud of how ignorant I was buying an old Holton with brass keys and a neck...

Does anyone known where to find info on the Model Numbers that Holton used ex: 230, 232, 566, 666, etc. and how to correctly identify model number with model type? Was the 232 a Revelation or a Stratodyne. What was the Model 566 and 666 were they both Collegiate model types ? Model Types...

Hey, I'm Andrew. I just graduated high school & although I am aware that this is a saxophone forum, you guys seem to be knowledgeable about other instruments too. So I'm hoping you can help me figure out some history on my instrument. Google didn't help me much and Holton only told me things I...

Hi all, I have a silver baritone saxophone and I'm trying to determine its age. The engraving on the bell is quite faint and the S/N is 12643. I am able to make out "Gretsch Commander Chicago Brooklyn U.S.A." on the bell I was able to find pictures of the same model of bari sax on the...
  8. Sax Repair, Maintenance and Modification
Hi, I am going to begin repairing my 1924 Holton and have some questions. Hopefully someone can help me as I am fairly new to repairing horns:) 1. Where can I get hinge rods for the horn? I heard most people fabricate their own with a tap and die which is no big deal for me. Its just that I...

Newbie to the forum so please forgive decorum lapses. I bought my 1948 Holton 241 tenor in 1981 and always sort of felt like it was an orphan horn so am very glad to see the enthusiasm for it on this forum. I have probably played it less than 500 hours in the years since, but want to really...
  10. Advice on Buying or Selling a Saxophone
I have a 1948 Holton 241 Tenor that I got from a guy who used it for decoration. It definitely needs a couple pads. As a buyer of a vintage horn, do you want it to come ready to play or do you want your own tech to work on it and get the horn for less.

I have an Eb Alto Sax - Silver - that belonged to my grandfather - pre-1930's. It is a Frank Holton Co. label on the front and the serial number is 108XX with an "LP" underneath. According to the Holton serial number listings I found online, it dates the horn at 1922. Any thoughts? Could it...
  12. General Discussion
I found this clip on Youtube. I love the sound of this horn. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsXp1a0MxIA Very rich and "Webster-esque"(in my opinion) Is this the Holton, the mouthpiece, the musician or a combination of the three? Whatever it is, I wanna sound like that one day...

It's been pointed out by a few people here, including Bruce Bailey, that Holton sax serial number lists on the internet are not correct. It sure would be nice to have an accurate list. To help this problem, I'm starting this registry. Everyone please list the number on your horn and...
