  1. What to Buy & Why: Reeds and Misc.
Please excuse the slightly long post. For a while I have been looking for new reeds for my alto saxophone mouthpieces as I don't like the brighter sound I am getting from the ones I use. I currently play a Yamaha YAS-280 and a Selmer S80 C** with Francois Louis Ultimate brass ligature with...
  2. Reeds
Hey folks, I have a brand-new Fibracell 4.5 (~2.75 cane) TENOR reed that's a bit bright and stiff for me ([email protected]). The other 4.5 was a good fit. So much for consistency! If you like a potentially brighter reed, or something a bit stiffer than a hard 2.5- soft 2.75, give this a try. As you'll...
  3. Reeds
Hi folks, I was about to pitch two tenor reeds but thought maybe someone would like to try them. They may have more life in them- they still play OK, just feel a bit too soft for me now. They're Fibracell 4 which is a ~2.5 cane. At this stage of their life, they play more like a 2.25. Let me...
  4. Reeds
Hi folks, I have a brand-new Fibracell tenor 4.5 for you. I'm playing their 4, which equates to about a 2.5 cane. This 4.5 feels more like a 3 cane to me. I'm not parting with it solely because it was a bit hard for me, but because I didn't think it sounded as good as a typical Fibracell, which...
  5. Reeds
Hi friends, I got a 2 and a 2 1/2 Fibracell tenor from Amazon today. The 2 is much softer than the 2 I've been playing/liking. The 2 1/2 is softer than my 2! Can't keep either. I wrote Joyce @ MIRI/Fibracell to ask about inconsistency or anomalies. Going forward, my confidence is shaken. I need...
  6. General Mouthpiece Discussion
Hey guys. I'm a sophomore at my high school and currently play lead tenor for our jazz band as well as tenor for concert. I'm currently using a Selmer Mark VI model, from '55 or '56 from the looks of the serial number. For jazz I've been using an Otto Link Master Link model, which needles to say...
  7. Reeds
Hi guys. I've always been a bit traditional, so I always used cane reeds. I recently ventured into the world of synthetic reeds, and bought a FIBRACELL. I've read and heard dozens of people that say FIBRACELL was better in the past, and after the change was not good stuff. And then I have...
  8. General Mouthpiece Discussion

  9. Reeds
Hey guys. I was talking to some of my other sax buddies and we were on the discussion of reeds. I said I played a med soft fibracell. Immediatley they said if you use fibracells that your embouchure will crash and burn opposed to if you used something like a Rico Select. Is there any truth to this?
  10. Tips and Techniques
I play Fibracells almost exclusively (bass clarinet is the only exception at the moment). One big advantage of synthetics in general is that they are instantly ready to go as soon as the horn is assembled. One apparent disadvantage of Fibracells compared to Legere and some other brands would be...
