  1. Advice on Buying or Selling a Saxophone
Hello! I've been lurking a while, and finally signed up so I could lurk some more... while trying to decide what make sax to start on. So this is kind of an introduction for me as well. I already play clarinet - not a genius or anything - I play for fun - and want to start learning the...
  2. Buescher
I have the opportunity to buy a Buescher True Tone C-melody sn 94xxx (1921), low pitch, for around 730 US$. The condition of the horn is great, with new pads. The finish is silver. Is this a fair price? Thank you for your help! -Trygve
  3. Selmer (Paris)
Check out our good friend and P. Mauriat saxophone artist, James Carter, shredding on both a 1957 Selmer Mark VI c-melody saxophone (one of only 5 known to have been made) and a WWII era Selmer Balanced Action c-melody saxophone (one of only 4 known to have been made). James's performance...
  4. Selmer (Paris)
Hello Everyone, I was browsing a salles website when I found this sax. The owner says it is in C and that is Selmer, but I'm not convinced it is a Selmer C-Melody, maybe a High Pitch Selmer Tenor? Can any of you shed some light on this? Thanks
  5. Soprano, Bass and Misc. mpc
I liked the thread(s) of Jacob, But I've seen a recent climb in C-melody players and intrest so I was wondering what people play on C-melody and what is their all time favourite... Tell me: If you had to go the rest of your days with ONE mouthpiece on C-mel. And only one, what would it be...
  6. Conn
I'm probably picking up this old Conn C-Melody from an acquaintance. Help me check my research before I buy, please!! The asking price is $150 (plus the $60 in gas it'll cost me to get there and back). Totalled, I'd be in it for $210. Not sure how much work is needed, but it appears to have...
  7. Sax Repair, Maintenance and Modification
I've come into possession of a Wurlitzer American (Martin stencil) C-Mel that's in basically solid condition, but lots of rust and crud, and I'm assuming useless pads. It was acquired specifically to learn how to maintain and service a horn (without destroying a useable one during the learning...

  9. C Melody Soprano, Contralto & Tenor
I just got my new Aquila C Metalpro Widebody mouthpiece last night. I've only played it a little, but I can offer a couple of observations. (And bear in mind that I'm still very mich a beginner, limited skills and a limited range of other sax and mouthpiece experience.) Right out of the box...
  10. Mouthpiece Maintenance, Modification & Refacing
Hi! I have looked at some threads about cleaning mouthpieces but I have found none that talked about a C-melody Buescher True Tone. I have a realy disgusting mouthpiece (just bought the C-melody) that I would like to clean and I don't know if it is made of hard rubber or ebonite, does anybody...
  11. Sax Repair, Maintenance and Modification
I want to disassemble clean and restore my 1921 Beuscher C Melody and replace the needle springs. I dont want to wait until I have it disassembled to measure and order the springs. Can anybody tell me a general reference of the spring sizes? I dont mind if I have a few extra of one or two sizes...
  12. C Melody Soprano, Contralto & Tenor
I Am now the proud owner of a Martin handcraf stencil C-melody saxophone. It came with case and a broken mpc.. the tip was just not there, but this wont be a problem as i`ve read on this forum and on Alan Tucker`s site. it was in quite ok condition, the pads were fine a few missing corks all...
  13. C Melody Soprano, Contralto & Tenor
My tenor MP is too large for the C-Mel neck cork. Currently have teflon tape wrapped to make up the missing diameter. What's the best way to keep it on? Alternatively, should I re-cork and if so, what thickness cork? (3/32" and sand down to fit?) Thanks, SteveM
  14. Conn
Today, I got a chance to look at a C-mel stencil that was sold under the name JW York and sons. It's ALL original, aside from the pads, and is in the kind of shape that one would be surprised at with a 3 year old Yamaha that's been marched with, and those things are BULLET-PROOF! Anyways, this...
  15. C Melody Soprano, Contralto & Tenor
I work at a homeless shelter, and someone donated a bunch of old instruments, and the only one I recognized, was this old Buescher TT C-mel (low pitch, serial 74xxx). Now its been mounted on someones wall I think, because the bell has a couple punch holes in it near the edge, and there's two...
  16. SOTW Member Recordings & Reviews
Sorry for the confusing subject line, but I have posted videos to YouTube that feature my recent recordings. Unfortunately, I was not rolling video during the actual performances. Still, I wanted to get them up on YouTube, and to do that I had to make videos, so I did: Solar Voyage Suite (part...
