I just found a nice interview of Swiss jazz researcher Otto Flückiger with tenor saxophonist Arnett Cobb (1918–1989), recorded in the spring of 1980 in Cobb's hometown, Houston Texas.
On that occasion Otto interviewed Cobb about his career, playing with Frank Davis, going to Chicago...
I think this is the first (or one of the first) recorded solo's of Johnny Griffin, while playing in the Lionel Hampton band of early 1946.
He plays a great solo in 'Air Mail Special' at 2:13 in below clip, only 17 years old (and just went from alto to tenor). Wish I could sound like that... Oh...
In 1984 I visited a concert with Arnett Cobb, Johnny Griffin and Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis in Nick Vollebregt's Jazzcafe in Laren, The Netherlands. It was broadcasted on Dutch radio by TROS Sesjun. I just uploaded another MP3 recording of that great concert (for me one of the greatest I've ever...
Just found two great clips on YouTube with Arnett Cobb, Al Grey and Doc Cheatham. In the fist clip Arnett plays one of his favorite ballads, 'The Nearness Of You'.
This is for me what Jazz is all about :). I hope you will enjoy it too!
I remember having seen a great concert of the Texas Tenors Arnett Cobb, Illinois Jacquet and Buddy Tate at the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands back in 1982 (on Sunday July the 15th, to be precise).
I recently found a great youtube video of the same group performing in Berlin...

Just found another nice old video on YouTube that I would like to share here:
I remember having seen this on the Dutch television. It's coming from the Lionel Hampton All Star Big Band at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1978 in The Netherlands.
Just found a fantastic video of Arnett Cobb recorded in 1979 in The Hague (Netherlands). I was there as a 17 year old non playing jazz lover and it turned me to start playing tenor a few years later. Check it out!
