I am looking at a "New" Beginner alto sax on ebay and I have come across the "too good to be true" price for a NEW sax of $249. Sounds like an Earl Shive commercial - any sax we got for $249.

The brand is "Soul instruments" and is touted as being a reputable supplier to school band programs. Any words of praise or caution out there?

Most likely a low-grade yamaha knockoff or something. In your shoes I'd go for a Vito, they sell new for about $700. I currently play a Vito and have taken it on many a gig, not a bad horn for the money.

Right, I'll paint any sax for just $99.95 ... and for an extra $40 I'll have my cat do a custom engraving too.

These are all over e-bay but I have yet to run across them anywhere in the "real world" ... having been in business for ten glorious years you'd think one or two of these things would show up somewhere besides ebay listings.

"too good to be true" is so very right!

I wish there was a "junk" filter on ebay to get rid of all these low-end dealers. and maybe the jewelry and bumper stickers too

Soul Instruments. The keep the cost down by making them out of old cans of Luck's Collard Greens.
