David - no disrespect intended, but how "stupid" can your "*#&#[email protected]!(%$ jazz band class" be if you have to name some famous alto players and you can only come up with one?

You might try some of the jazz web sites (do a search) and you'll come up with numerous lists from which to choose.

Just a tip. After you've made your list, you might want to get a CD or two and give these players a listen. I'll get you started: Cannonball Adderley, Art Pepper. Cheers!

Frank Strozier and one of my all time favs....Sonny Criss. Grossly underappreciated. I didn't see Hank Crawford anywhere. How about Roy Nathanson from the Jazz Passengers? A couple of younger soon to be giants....Vincent Herring and Antonio Hart. Kirk Jenson is also enjoyable for some Funk. Theres also a whole slew of the metal mpc. Sanborn clones......ie Rangell, Dolfer, Marienthal and more.

I know many, but many are taken. I need one that is known and has loads of info on them, i play more than i research other players too.

so if you spend your time researching what some saxaphonist liked to eat for breakfast or some stupid thing like that. otherwise you are not needed here gary

Arthur Blythe, Anthony Braxton, Bobby Jones and Gary Bartz come to mind. All great players in their own realms.
