Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Satin silver and gold-washed bell. This finish has held up over ninety years on my Martin saxes; cool and warm. Looks like others feel the same. Perhaps this finish should be brought back. But can you imagine the expense now?

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I've only seen this once and a half. Both of Randall's baris. Satin silver with polished in the engraved areas. I prefer the SBA because it has the gold accents, and I think that is absolutely stunning.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
For the longest time silver was my preferred finish - i have now a silverplate conn 10 with gold wash bell, and even though a previous owner buffed the satin finish away it still looks beautlful. I recently got a lacker Voll-TrueII, and now my allegiance wavers... even though a previous owner of that one took a metal brush (or something like that) to the horn, resulting in scratch marks all over. It would be a nice project some time to try to restore that - though i have no idea how to.

To each his own. That's my favorite mass production finish though. Looks stunning up close.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I almost bought the Keilwerth Nickle Silver with the gold lacquer keys. Great playing horn.. Looks as great as it plays, but then I tried the Shadow and LOVED it... Looks wise, IMHO I think it looks Killer, and it plays AMAZINGLY too. Totally happy with my shadow for its looks and its sound

I like the satin silver with gold wash bell also. I inherited this chu a few years back. It plays as good as it looks.
I also like the bare brass look.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Finishes for me? Right now I love my antique finished mauriat horn, but I also like the look of black nickel with silver keys and silver engraving.
Also I love extensive engraving or hand engraving work. I really want to get this done some day .
Also, I've recently become quite partial to satin gold plating and satin silver plating. Silver with Gold Keywork also looks pretty nifty!
Or you can just go to the cannonball website and take your pick. They have it all!

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I like the engraving on the selmer horns (look my picture), and I think the best finish would be:
Silver plating (that is if you can keep it from tarnishing) with a huge fleur-de-lis engraving. I can easily say I like the looks of long ago when they would engrave much of the instrument. I also can 'digg' other finishes, like the one on my picture.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Some (especially ladies) may like these: http://www.sax.co.uk/handpaintedsaxes.htm
Not up to my taste though.
I prefer glossy silver body with glossy gold keywork.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
In no particular order
1. Nickel plated W/ gold keys
2. Nickel w/ nickel keys
3. Matte antique (ref 54)
4. Aged brass (cball brute)
5. Silver matte (ice) w/ gold keys
6. Inderbinden brown brass
7. Copper with gold keys - this is just stunning
8. Keilwerth vintage finish
9. Keilwerth Nickel silver with gold keys
STUFF I'VE NEVER SEEN BUT I THINK WOULD BE COOL
Theo Wanne black vintified with black vintified hardware and black abalone like key touches/ or pearl. Kinda like the stealth bomber look.
White sax with white keys (have not seen all black hardware yet) kinda like a storm trooper look.
Clear sax made out of some type of resin or plastic
Sunburst finish similiar to a guitar or a bass
