Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I like the look of solid silver necks and bells with gold plated leafs and then gold lacquer on top of that. Kind of like this:

I love matte laquer because it's got a vintage look to it.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
My Custom Z's Silver Shotblast. It has that vintage vibe to it. Plus, it is one of fifty altos made. Might as well have your cake and eat it too!

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I like the finish on my alto. It's about 60% lacquer, and the rest is varying shades of red and bare brass. Kind of 'vintaged', I suppose. hakalto.jpg

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I dig my '26 Martin Handcraft c-mel with Silver plating but a gold wash bell. Otherwise, I rather like the aged lacquer look, like Hak's horn above. I've got an alto that looks fairly similar, and I like that too.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Hi all. I'm not certain how you work these forums but I'm just posting where I see the reply button...
Well, I just declared myself to be a sax major after having finished my first quarter in college. Of course, as a sax performance major, I would need a sax of my own. Right now, I am looking into Sam Ash's JEAN BAPTIST JB900TS Tenor Sax. Would anyone like to tell me the ups and downs of this sax before I possibly make the most expensive mistake of my young college life?

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Amy, your reply worked, but probably you should post your
question in another thread.
This thread topic is about 'favorite sax finish'.
I can't comment on your choice of horn as I know nothing about this particular model.
If you have a friend that is a good sax player, ask them to go to
the shop with you and check it out.
Check out these threads...

Reading some of the comments in these posts, the news does not seem
very good concerning the Jean Baptist saxes.
Maybe the guy should have stayed with converting people to Christianity.
Other posters have had good experiences with these saxes, however.
Go figure.
Maybe try a few and pick the best one.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I have a Cannonball Black and lacquered. Kind of like the second one in MelodiousThonk's pictures. Some blood red keys on it would look sick in my opinion. Although the Cannonball doesn't look AS good as the one in that picture of Thonk's.
