Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
1.Satin gold or silver plate with the same color polished keywork, bell interior, engraving.
2.Satin silver with gold keywork.
3.Honey gold vintage lacquer.

Don't you mean the dark GOLD LACQUER on the Yami stencils? A coppery lacquer would be awesome though. Look at the Keilwerth "Prestige"!

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Note that if your horn looks fancy, e.g. "satin silver with polished silver keys", then you're gonna be expected to play the way your horn looks. The last thing you want to do is bring attention to yourself in that way if you can't play well. :-p
Look at the Mark VI's out there played by the best of the best--all ugly. So get an ugly horn and play the hell out of it.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
My private teacher's SA-80 serie II Black Laquer alto with yellow Laquered keys. Beautiful. Then probably a bright silver plate all over. Then unlaquered.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
1) J. Michael makes what they call "gun metric". I've seen some better pictures of them and it looks more like an antiqued brushed nickel. I've never seen the horns other than pictures (or that finish on anything else) but boy do they look good. Actually if you look at topsax on ebay right now he has a copper version of it. Think of this in a silver hue
2) Black nickel with silver keys (I just recently bought a black nickel with black nickel keys that I like but prefer the silver keys)
3) Gold all around.
Just for giggles the one I hate the most is silver with gold keys. Yuck.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
It depends on the tune, but often on the SUBMEDIANT...

Satin silver plate with bright silver keys and engraving - and for some reason I think early Martins look the best of all in this livery.

Quite so - I favour anonymous modern lacquer in public.
Most disliked finish: that brushed "antique brass" one used on Far-Eastern saxes and table lamps.

I never thought of that. Never saw it either. But the exact opposite would be even better. Solid (sterling) silver with rose brass/copper/anything of that colour keys.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I don't like how the neck is polished instead of matte on the Selmer Paris Series III.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Silver satin plated with polished keys on my Conns. I am getting a gold plated Chu overhauled now.
My polished silver SBA is just gorgeous.
Don't like to look at pitted lacquer models but that's just me. Love to hear them but like them pretty.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Gold plate is cool, so is unlaquered, but I'm a real sucker for silver plate.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
Old worn out Mark VI Tenor (20-35% laquer) with an old silver Mark VI neck and silver mouthpiece. (Like Brecker's horn was) Nice and ugly, mismatched, but truly amazing sounding.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
My favorite sax finish is to end on the 9th of the key the tune ends
with
Another good one is to play a major triad a tone up from the final chord.
eg. If the tune ends on C major, play a D major triad. It sounds very
effective.
That's a couple of my favorite sax finishes.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
I'd have to agree with several others, honey gold. I love my Zephyr!
I also think the gold keys and black finish on some modern horns is breathtaking.

Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?
If you love saxophones, skip this next line.
At one game, what I thought to be a black nickel saxophone in the other band was actually black spray paint. He spray painted his alto black. No more horror stories!
I want a light blue if they ever come out. That would do it for me. Not quite silver and not quite blue but a good median. I am also quite fond of the brushed gold.

The neck on my Series III is matte, as is the rest of the horn. But it's not silver. Personally, I like the look of mine better.
Also, I'm a fan of the silver plate that's started to wear off and show the brass underneath. My soprano is getting there, and it looks pretty cool.
