Thank you. Plays just as good as it looks. Not in my hands of course, but in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing...

My preferences:

no lacquer (or clear so you can see brass), body and keys matching, little to no engraving.

I'd spend 0$ to get the look I prefer.

However, I like to look at everyone else's lacquer saxes!
Always appreciate them.

Bare brass (no lacquer).

The uglier, the better.

(too bad thay don't make these anymore)
3. Really dark worn looking less than 50% lacquer

Saxophone.com, and I think that keilwerth can make them like that, if you want them to, and have the means. I know that they have the satin finish, but I also heard that you dcould get them to customize it? Possibly.

Goldplate. It doesn't really look that different than lacquer (unless it's sandblasted or something), I just like the idea of it.

Same here. Looks best IMO and doesn't draw unecessary attention, lets the music do that (which could be good or bad of course ).

Yes, if only the looks are concerned, heavy silver plating without any unneeded decorations would be best for me.

I know what my favorite ISN'T: When I bought my alto the previous owner had had a bad relacquer job done on it. It looked like the horn had been clumsily sanded down, as the abbrasions were (and still are) visible. High polished mostly, except in difficult to reach places where it seems no effort had been made to reach. Clear lacquer had been sloppily applied with several drips solidified into the finish, the biggest drip running from the 12:00 center lip of the bell right down inside. It looked tragic.

And now my favorite: I recently had an excellent and trustworthy tech chemically strip the crappy lacquer off the horn, leaving the brass in its natural state. It has been slowly darkening over the last few months, and looks more beautiful every time I open the case. Having a horn I'm not embarrassed to be seen with has actually been good for my alto playing - I take it with me more often.

My vote goes to unlacquered

My favorite sax finish is probably a high E if playing gospel music. Low E for an expressive ballad.

Bare brass all the way.

Wouldn't pay any extra for it, I can buy a lacquered sax and strip the lacquer off myself.

I love my satin/matt nickel silver tenor.

Then I ordered a soprano in black nickel and I have to admit that grew tired of the looks very fast. All I want for future horns is a bare brass horn with a nice engraving (I never understood why so many want horns without engraving. They look like "blanks" to me that have never been finished).

Default Re: What is Your Favorite Sax Finish?

I really never digged the shines...

I like the brushed or antiqued finish like the Kessler's or P. Mauriates. Green pearl keys touches. maybe over black- nickel sot the engravings are blacked like and antique feel.

or black nickel body w/ brushed brass inside the bell and w/ gold keys. black pearl key touches. gold engravings.
