Re: Ivan Meyer (Brazil) SotW Mouthpiece Pass Around
I have a nagging question now for Dr.G or Ivan Meyer, there seems to be on all the examples of mouthpieces made and used one (un)common reed and that is a premier Fibracell 1.5. does this mean the optimum reed to use is the mentioned Fibracell 1.5 or the facing, curve, length, chamber work done with a Fibracell in mind only or is this just Dr.Ivan Meyer reed of preference? I of course can't and won't use a Fibracell 1.5 as it is not my choice of reed. can someone please explain?

Hello Dolphyo,
The mouthpieces I made go well with vandoren java reeds and fibracell.
I, like musician, use vandoren java or fibracell. I have used vandoren java about 25 years, and fibracell I have used for 19 years. Actually, becouse my work of luthier, I prefer fibracell, becouse put and remove the reed a lot of times it has a longer life.
Playing with fibracell in another mouthpieces I didn´t like the sound of fibracell in those mouthpieces. Today, everything I play I´m using fibracell, including clarinet. But in oboe I don´t use syntetic reeds. I use handmade reeds. There is a lot of preconception with fibracell. I affirm that for a reed have a good sound it is necessary a mouthpiece designed for it. And was that I have made. Please, see http://www.vandojazz.fr/vandojazz_ne...=392&Itemid=69 where I´m endorser of vandoren reed.
I have the opinion that each saxophonist must try and find his reed. I have found my one. If you want to listen the sound of my mouthpieces with fibracell, please see http://ivanmeyer.com/audiovideo.html.
Take it easy, my mouthipieces works very good with any reed, including fibracell.
Best regards,
Ivan Meyer

Thanks, Ivan. I, too, was wondering about that. I've several boxes of reeds waiting in anticipation of testing your mouthpieces.

Re: Ivan Meyer (Brazil) SotW Mouthpiece Pass Around
Thanks Ivan, I hope it goes well with V16's and ZZ, those are of my preference.
How long will it take to be ready to ship, and when do you need my address?
And last, can it be chrome or silver?
is for my silver plated alto.
But gold is fine if you don't have one.

Roby,
Are you asking to participate in the Pass Around or do you want Ivan to make one to sell you?

Re: Ivan Meyer (Brazil) SotW Mouthpiece Pass Around
Franz, let us see how many European participants we gather. If there exists sufficient interest and you (collectively) are willing to cover the price of postage and insurance, I don't see why we should not include our Euro brethern.
To lessen the price of shipping and insurance, please let me know what pieces you are interested in so we can perhaps reduce costs by shipping only those pieces of interest.

Re: Ivan Meyer (Brazil) SotW Mouthpiece Pass Around
I'm in for alto pieces. Usually play Meyer 7M. I'm not a big fan of a lot smaller tip openings.
Would be nice if it would work out and there are some other participants on this side of the ocean. If it doesn't that's okay too, hopefully get a chance to try one of these pieces another time.

If I like it, I'll keep it.
That's why I ask for a silver or chrome.
Not so much as an 8 but a 7 will fit fine.

Well the facings and models are decided. Get what you want by buying it !
Btw, if you're keeping it, some people behind you in the pass around may be upset

Yes, although I think maybe Robysax was kidding a bit. In any case, I always assumed that if someone likes a pass around piece, that person would order one separately so as not to hold up the rotation. It's also fair to the manufacturer, who kindly provides the piece for SOTW members to play test.
Not to worry though. Dr G will no doubt make everything clear.

Re: Ivan Meyer (Brazil) SotW Mouthpiece Pass Around
No! I wouldn't keep the pass around, I was kidding as you see the smiley face.
If I like it, I would order one with the specific numbers and would not alter the pass around secuence.
I was asking for a silver or chrome so the sound will be acurate as the one I will order if I like it.
Some people say the plating does not change the sound but I like to differ.
I know by saying this I will get heat, but that's my experience and oppinion.

Re: Ivan Meyer (Brazil) SotW Mouthpiece Pass Around
I'd definitely be interested in giving those pieces a try.
Tenor would be the one I would try. Any facing from 7 to 8 with a medium large or large chamber, longer kind of facing curve. I typically play Link type pieces.
Thanks,
Victor.
