New Mac sax Model on the markt ?
I saw yesterday in an advertising the new MacSax model Magnum of gold brass.
It looks really good and price is also not that much.
I hope its a Taiwanese equipment.
I am wondering how does it sound, the look is great.

Re: New Mac sax Model on the markt ?
Conn-hunter,
Thanks for your interest in the new MacSax Magnum Series. We are very excited to be carrying this new model.
We were waiting to "officially" announce the new Magnum series saxes on SOTW until some clips were available. But since you asked ......
As you mentioned this new sax has a stunning look to it. All the stock finishes are reminiscent of vintage horns.
The sound of this model, to me, comes closer to capturing the sound of the older saxes. The tenor I have been playing for years is a 57xxx Mark VI. The Magnum tenor is pretty close in sound. I have been playing the Magnum tenor a lot for the past week or so. Sound clips and, possibly, videos will be posted on our site shortly.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us through our website (macsax.com), or through SOTW or just give us a call.
Again, thanks for your interest,
Greg Wilson
VP, MACSAX

Wow! There are as many new imported brands coming out now, as there were European and American brands in the 1920s!

Beautiful Horn ! Too bad I already have enough horns in my stable. I don't want any strife with the wife. It is nice to have all these choices. These guys are straight shooters.

The OP asked about country of origin, but that wasn't answered.

Re: New Mac sax Model on the markt ?
Did I see right??
the Mac20 is gone, no longer being sold?
I`d salute such decision.
I always had the opinion the mac20 was very overpriced for a China sax.
But let us forget this Fauxpas and look straight ahead.
I find this Mac Magnum atractive, a Taiwanese one with good sound (still wishing to listen more) and good price. Excellent.
welcome back to the right road guys.

Re: New Mac sax Model on the markt ?
Just got my MAC8 RTH Alto yesterday from Mike and Greg at MACSAX. So far quality instrument! rolled tone holes, Black roo pads with copper resonators. I think the price was very fair. It came with a decent molded case with 4 locking latches and hidden compartment.
Back to the sax, I got the Dark Vintage Lacquer and its engraved from bell to neck, very nice engraving, keywork is nice and solid. I've used a Meyer6 and a Optimum al3 on it and it produces a nice melow song with the Meyer and a more clear precise song with the Optimum.
BTW, I sent back a tenor to *.*.Winds the day after I got it. Didn't like the action at all, it was their pro classic model. Didn't feel "pro" at all. The action was very loose to me.
You won't be dissapointed with a MACSAX, at least not the MAC8 RTH . My next step is purchasing the copper neck and some day maybe a Theo Wanne mp.
BTW, can't wait to get my Conn 30m back from the shop, getting total overhaul with new pads & 2nd lacquer job stripped off. I like my saxes with no clothes on, if you know what I mean.

Re: New Mac sax Model on the markt ?
Here are some pics of my new MACSAX MAC8 RTH I received in September. I am still very happy with the quality of build and especially the sound. Rolled Tone Holes, Black Roo Pads with Copper Resonators. Double arms on a couple of the keys. The finish is a 7 out of 10. There are places around screw adjustments that were missed when sprayed and a few small places where the clear coat looks like it was touched before it was dry (like on the key arms), but I did not by this sax for the finish. If I had my choice, this sax would have the laquer flaking off in all those vintage places it should or completely bare! This is the antique laquer and it is beautiful. The engraving is A+ all over the bell, bow, and neck.
I have received compliments about the tone quality and the looks. I'm very satisified.

Re: New Mac sax Model on the markt ?
The first thing I would do is carefully hacksaw off that hideous, gigantic M on the bell brace. What were they thinking?
Possibly, I would turn it upside down to have a W, which is the first letter of my name. No, the giant piece of alphabet has gotta go.
