Just thought you might be interested to hear that Nigel Wood is putting together a site dedicated to the Soprillo at www.soprillo.com

At the moment, there's just the one page with a short mp3, but do have a listen if you're curious about hearing the soprillo as a featured instrument!

Btw, we're just back from the Edinburgh Fringe where we included 2 soprillo features in the programme and they went down a storm. Nigel is an astonishing player, and used properly it's proving to be a sensational instrument.

Wow! I've never seen one before but I am sooo drooling. If I could find a reed for that and they made it gold-plated, I'd save the full year to afford it! If reeds were safe for me, I'd be the first on the waiting list!

So I'm hoping my soprillo will arrive by Valentine's day this year and I hit Soprillo World to get some inspiration. I'm really liking Mandy Grezeszak's 'Mandy's Crazy Rag'.

There was a thread about people wondering what that instrument was (for the soprano sax) and I've had people ask me if my silver clarinet was a soprano sax. So I can only imagine the questions people will have about the soprillo, aka piccolo, aka sopranissimo saxophone.

The Soprillo will definitely get you noticed. It's a lot of work, but the range up to high A can be played immediately. The new version is a little easier (but not simple) to play above high G, and it's gorgeous, with keywork that looks a little more "normal" than earlier versions.

I think it's easier to play loud than soft, like a lot of saxophones. Also, practice in short sessions with rest in between. You're developing a new set of muscles.

I use Eb sopranino reeds, but there are others who play soprillo better than I do who use other reeds.

I could quote Arthur Benade's articles about why very high saxophones are difficult to play, but the bottom line is, Benedikt Eppelsheim has dared to go where no one has gone before and with practice, you can be the highest saxophone player on your block.

I bought mine, more than a year ago, at sax.co.uk - their online catalog has most, if not all, of the Eppelsheim horns.
