I was wondering if you guys thing that the C Mel will ever come back into production, I feel that i could be a great tool for players learning to improvise and could be very useful in a lot of other situations, but is held back due to the availability of parts. Tell me whatcha think.
I purchased this with a quick impulsive bid. The neck looked like a Conn New Wonder Tenor neck and didn't give it much thought. Even though the C near the serial number. Does the neck look correct? Or did someone switch it out? Do these horns play well? ...
Almost pristine horn, still with it's rotting original pads. Great condition case, but the handle rotted off some time ago. However, how do I get rid of the smell in the case? Just leave it open and drive the wife out of the house?
We are well aware that the C Melody was produced as an instrument for amateurs, this despite the fact that they were technically & acoustically the equal of their concurrent alto & tenor siblings. With some notable exceptions they were not played by "real" saxophonists, to the extent that Coleman...
Hi, I have recently bought on ebay a Buescher TT C melody serial 130XXX. I was aware that it would need an overhaul and a full repad. Since I don't really have the money for it right now, I figured I could just leave it on a stand, since I kind of find it beautiful. I received it this...
I have a Conn C melody sax that I am trying to decide if I should keep or sell. I have only got it out of the case 2-3 times in the last 2 years. I like playing it when I do, but it does not happen that often. I played it a few times with in a duet with my young daughter on the flute. This made it...
I just got hold of a early 20's? (Ser#M193802) Conn C melody horn. What a blast so far! I started playing sax (alto) in elementary school as many did and played Tenor in high school (Concert, marching and Jazz band). I hung it up in favor of the guitar after school though I have played a bit...
I haven't seen a curved neck Conn C Melody with a micro tuner until this one. Must have been one of the later curved necks: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-1914-C-MELODY-SAXOPHONE-TENOR-L-PITCH-/270610588380?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f01a5e2dc
Hi, I thought I'd post this with the C-melody forum as I would like comments from you players with the c-melody "ear". I've shortened the piece in Audacity and included the music for those who'd like to follow along. I'm playing a Morgan C-mel mpc with a #2.5 Vandoren Blue reed. My first listen...
This is the first time I have posted on here, although I have lurked in the background for sometime, I'm wondering if anyone can help me at all. I have a Boosey & Hawkes C Soprano and I'm after any information anyone could give me about it, and what it may or may not be worth? The engraving...
I work at a homeless shelter, and someone donated a bunch of old instruments, and the only one I recognized, was this old Buescher TT C-mel (low pitch, serial 74xxx). Now its been mounted on someones wall I think, because the bell has a couple punch holes in it near the edge, and there's two...
Hello all: sorry if this one has been asked a million times before... I just scored a 1922 Buescher TT C melody that has been completely rebuilt by vintagesax. I was planning on doing the quick flip on ebay but the sax is so cool that I might just keep it and try to play it (for the two...
Well, at long last the much anticipated new Aqulia sax C-melody arrived! The following are my initial impressions: First, the case is nice. While some would call it a semi-hard case, it is indeed hard and has a nice full length pocket , ruck sack straps and velcro closure to hold both handles...
Many people speak to the quality of a Morgan c-melody mouthpiece. I'd like to believe them but at US$265 each I'm not ready to commit more money for a mouthpiece than I paid for my c-mel without a trial. Is there anyone out there with a Morgan c-mel mouthpiece they'd be willing to share with the...
That's my simple query.... Horn which looks to the naked eye to be an alto...but is 51 cm from bottom of bow to top of neck collar/ferrule. 51cm = 20.1 in. Mezzo Alto ????? Keyed in F ???? ......Or a high-pitch Eb Alto ???? Saw a Conn F Mezzo in a musical instrument museum recently...
I thought the old C-melody sax forum had disappeared forever, but I accidentally found an archive of it. Pretty cool and lots of good information. You can't add posts to this, of course. I believe everything on the site is from 2008 or older; most posts were older but there were no years in the...
Hello, I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping this is the right place to ask a question about my Wurlitzer C Melody saxophone. It has the tenor neck and I'm pretty sure it is a stencil, maybe a Buescher. My question is: The five digit serial number is preceeded by the capital letter, "P". Is there...
I just picked up an Evette-Schaeffer Buffet sax. This is an old and rare horn as far as I can tell. It has an unusual octave mechanism. Mechanically the instrument is excellent. It is silver plated with gold inside the bell. The horn will need a complete re-pad. I am debating if I should rebuild...
Sound samples are on his website sounds good Love to hear how they are?
Just saw this clip by chance, and it mentioned that it is a c-mel. Do you know what c-mel he played? And why use c-mel to play this pieces? How do you like/describe this tone?
I have problems with my right hand and I try to let my neck strap take more of the weight which is starting to cause other problems. I know I can get a stand for standing and playing, but do they make a stand to use while sitting and playing a tenor sax? I was even going to try a tuba rest but...
Hi there everyone I was looking to buy a cheap horn as sort of a project for the summer and ran into a c melody saxophone that would fit the bill. All i know is that the brand is Beaufort American which i believe is a conn stencil (though someone i talked to seemed to think it was a buescher)...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110493729315&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1182 Just hand-carried to me from San Francisco! It came with a Conn Steelay mouthpiece, but the seller couldn't say for sure if it was a C or Bb piece - seems to me to be Bb. It was OK, and I...
I am not content with my Bruno Perfection C Melody purely because it has no Mother of Pearl inlay and the material is too soft (easily bent or am I a bit too rough with her?). No complaints about its tone though ....sounds so nice. i need something that is built like a tank! So which one is...
There is a modern c melody for auction on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350325369301&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Some of you that own an aquilasax c melody might be able to tell me if this is like your aquilasax. It definitely seems to be made in China (german...
I read somwhere on this vast site, that someone was going to make a repro of this beautiful instrument, and I wonder if there is more information on this.I think that they have the best sound of any sax.
Hi, I play a Conn straight neck c mel now. I'm considering getting an Aquilasax c mel. Is the Aquilasax c mel good enough to make it your primary c mel sax?
I saw this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Buescher-Tru-Tone-C-Melody-Saxophone-1916-USA-Martin_W0QQitemZ150418027815QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item23059cf527 It seems that it is an early Buescher TT made by Martin. I had never heard of these before. It has the Buescher...
Sorry for cross-posting, but I came across a good solution for creating a custom-fit case for my C-melody. Here is the link to the post: http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?132459-Custom-case-for-my-C-mel
Jary Custom C Melody Mouthpiece http://cgi.ebay.ca/Jary-Custom-C-Melody-Saxophone-Mouthpiece_W0QQitemZ120528746496QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c1012b800 Anyone tried one of these? Or has an opinion on what he says about his mouthpiece?
Just thought I'd let you know that a practically brand new Aquilasax c-mel and practically unplayed Martin c-mel are for sale under Horns for Sale.
So my Concertone C-mel came today... from everything I can tell, the keywork down to the beveled tone holes, this thing is a Martin stencil. Sadly, from everything I can tell it is also all kinds of broken. Thankfully it's complete but it has some serious issues with the keywork (rusted springs,...
this company claims to have new c-soprano saxes with modern keywork. anyone have any info or experience with them? www.Aquilasax.com
I've developed a problem with my Conn 1922 silver plate straight neck C Melody. When I start hitting F# and G with the octave key I get a buzz and it becomes difficult to hold the octave. The octave key does not appear to be leaking and when I do the G to A octave test the top octave pad remains...
Follow the link. It's got some Martin characteristics but it is definitely an individual! http://cgi.ebay.ca/C-MELODY-SAX-GRONERT_W0QQitemZ390068654205QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad1e7507d
The Woodwind mouthpiece I got with my Conn Striaight neck C mel plays nicely with the old c mel reeds that were in the case, but it looks that tenor reeds fit it pretty well also. Does any one know if this mouthpiece was made for tenor reeds to fit?
Looking for some advice please. I have a Conn C Soprano which is only keyed to E flat. Any suggested fingerings for Altissimo E and F please. I think that will be plenty high enough! clark r
I just got a 1922 Conn straight neck microtuner C mel in exquisite condition with a recent repad. It will need a few new corks and felts down the road, but all in all, I'm thrilled with the sax. The guy I got it from had bought a Woodwind C Mel Stellite Ebonite mouthpiece and it had about half a...
I was wondering how useful a C soprano would be for band/orchestra use? It can be used to replace an oboe (if it ever came up)...is there any other reason? Just wondering if it's worthwhile to look for one.
I saw this while browsing the Saxquest website. This Model 22 C melody is quite a piece of history. https://www.saxquest.com/productDetails.asp?productcode=1394Model22CMelody
This is what happens when I realize I have excess college loan money: http://cgi.ebay.com/vintage-Silver-Saxophone-Low-Pitch_W0QQitemZ370321953974QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5638e894b6 From everything I've gathered it looks an awful lot like a Martin Handcraft stencil. It...
We've had discussions here on bore sizes and tone. Generally it is stated that the Martin and King c-mels have the largest bore and the Conn the smallest bore. Well I took up the task of measuring the bores on the following three c-mels: 1) Conn New Wonder II 2) Martin 26xxx 3) Aquilasax I...
I'm evaluating 3 c-mels and am going to keep one. They are: 1) a late Conn New Wonder II with an Aquilasax straight neck 2) an early 26xxx Martin (with original white pads on the upper and lower stack!) 3) and Mal-2's Aquilasax The tone of each are similiar. The Aquilasax tone has a little...
C-Melody Buddies, Why should the alto, tenor, and bari get to have all the fun? Let's list the five best c-melodies brands we can think of. My list does not include a rank order as I consider that to be a matter of personal preference. Buescher Martin Conn King Selmer
I saw some item in ebay described as "Conn Vintage C Melody L-Low Pitch Saxophone NR" What is meant by low pitch? Thanks
Ok, I searched for a thread on this, but couldnt find one when I searched specifically for "c melody reeds". Does anybody know any companies that still make reeds for a c melody using an actual c melody mouthpiece? I know that tenor reeds will work, but heard they are a bit wide and that the alto...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170424471030&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_8060wt_1167 The pictures are good, and some observant person realized it's in C. The seller had no clue, and probably still doesn't.
Should'nt the C melody tenor sax have its own modern mpc & reeds? On my Martin C melody, Bb tenor mpc & reeds are too wide, giving a wild ducky sound. Most tenor mpcs are too long. Alto mpcs are too small. Now that new horn manufacturing is starting up now is time to discuss this, I may not...
I just bought this saxophone from an SOTW member and After looking at it for a long while I'm starting to think that it might be a C-Melody and not an Alto. Here is the link to the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180445335633&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1046....
I am putting the finishing touches on a C1918 Buescher C Mel and was finally able to play it from low Bb to high F last night. Using a Penzel Mueller Artist tenor mouthpiece I was pleasantly surprised with both it's tone and intonation. The high F was little flat and the low Bb was a little sharp...
