I received a link from one of our customers leading to a thread that was started by a user with questions about our saxophones. First, I would like to assure everyone that no one affiliated with our company was responsible for this post. I would also like to inform anyone on the forum that has any questions about our saxophones to please pm or email us, and we will respond asap.

As for the starter of the closed thread, the name "majorsaxfan", very similar to the ebay name "majorwinegeek" - recently purchased a sax on ebay.

I look forward to reading more posts... great forum!!!

Wanted to buy a new horn after years of used ones. Just wanted that new car feeling. :)
Was interested in the Pro Taiwan horns (Mauriat, Barone, System54, Cannonball etc..)
I played all of them in and around my area. From retail stores to local players letting me try their personal horns.

Did not want to spend alot as I know new horns depreciate and didnt have alot of $ to spend anyway.

I settled on the Maxtone SX58 Tenor. I ordered it about 2 months ago.
What can I say but, wow! Bottom line, for the money they can't be beat - period.

The material and build quality is first rate. I settled on the Dark Amber Gold Plate. (Very dark gold honey)
I had it set up from my local tech (cost 50.00). He said he loosened the action a bit (alittle stiff) and re-seated one of the pads. Otherwise he said it was a keeper.
He said it no doubt rivals any of the other pro taiwan horns. (then again, they may very well be made in same place). But I dont know all the other models and makers (just the ones I tried)

The sound is lush and full. Very easy blowing and the ergos are exc. (I imagine same as most modern horns go)
I would have to equate the feel and overall sound very similar to the mauriat 66 (straight tone holes) I tried.

A very satisfying experience thru maxtone and one that saved me over 50% off retail/wholsale.
The initial cost of horn coupled with the import fees and shipping etc etc. Cost came to 795.00 !

Will post some pics later when I get them taken. Just thought I'd pass this on to others looking for an inexpensive alternative.
8-)

The sax does have two numbers on, where the crook joins the body of the sax, on the sax is marked 20007 and above that a 40 , just below where the split part is, that crimps in to hold the crook. Does anyone know what year that may have been made approximately? Thanks.

Hello Fellow Sax Addicts,
I just took delivery of a Mac 8 RTH. Mike Crouch made me an offer that I could not refuse. Mine came in black nickel finnish. It is just beautifull, especially with the black roo pads and blk mop pearls. I call it my Black Stallion.
Mike did a great job packing it with all the corks in the right places along with the padding. It arrived in perfect condition. It was pleasure dealing with Macsax. They are easy to get a hold of and always answer your emails promptly. No pressure at all.
The fit and finnish are truly outstanding. The nickle plating looks like glass. The color changes from black to dark silver depending on how the light hits it. The detailed hand engraving is remarkable. It is not the cheap laser engraving found on other horns which makes them look cheap. This horn is solidly built and is heavier than the average horn.
The ergonomics are outstanding. The pearls are contured for the fingertips and are very comfortable. The keys are ergonomically placed and make it easy for the fingers to fly over the keyboard. The action is silky smooth and quick. They make you want to play faster. The keys are pretty quiet, not clunky one bit.
The rolled tone holes help provide for a remarkable response. The copper resonators are the icing on the cake. I get a slight growl or buzz added to the already rich and robust tone. I still need to get the right mpc to compliment this horn.
I did not want to put this horn down when I first played it. Three hours later, I had to stop because it was dinner time. It reminds me a lot of the Couf Superba I tenor that I played through the 80's. It looks a lot like CB stone series but without the cheesy stones and laser engraving and high price.
If it is rolled tone holes that turn you on, check out MACSAX. P. Mauriat has rolled tones holes and of course J.Keilwerth. You will end up paying 2 to 3 times the price of a MAC8 RTH, but why would you ?
I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the Mac 8 RTH to anyone looking for a pro horn.
