I'll fess up---I'm the proud owner of this sax, and am I ever happy.

I found this sax at an estate sale back in November 2002 in the condition that are shown in the prep pictures---used, tired, but not abused. I was able to play it in the condition that it was in, but it obviously sat in the closet for probably 20-25 years judging by some of the archeological finds that were also in the case.

I debated about what to do with it because I'm happy with my current YTS-62. I started exchanging emails with sarge and was encouraged to put this horn into shape. He got it at the beginning of January and started work on it January 23rd. Was told that it was a 4-6 month project because of the plating. Well after some gentle pounding, banging and bending, sarge sent it off to Anderson's and I didn't expect to hear anything until June or July. When he sent me an email last week saying it was back, I was stunned.

A few days of reassembly and here I sit waiting impatiently for the big brown truck. Can't wait to see, and more importantly, play this beast. Sarge's word to me is "fabulous player...I mean it..." Went first class, top of the line with the springs, pads and resonators, so we're talkin a turbocharged SML on steroids.

I encourage anyone out there with one of these closet horns to get it resurrected and back into circulation. These instruments are music history and too precious to sit idle.

I'll post more when I get the sax.

Can you give me a quote for the same job on a bari or is it like a piece of string???

Hi,
It's a big job and it takes time and patience... a bari is a lot of real estate and Anderson Silver Plating part runs about 750.00. if you want it re-engraved that will be about 250.00 and finally a rebuild will run about 850.00, depending on extras (custom pads, reso's, etc.) and if it needs dentwork, etc.

Sigmund, to what? How incredible the horn looks after replating or to the cost of refurbishing a vintage bari? One thing is for sure, it takes an incredible amount of time and expertise to fully refurbish/restore a vintage horn.

Sarge, are you including your prep work for replating in the $750 figure or the $850.00? Just curious what Anderson's charges for the plating work on a bari. Thanks.

I meant to the horn....not the price of the rebuild etc. What a beautiful work of art!
