That's one real nice horn, but you are certainly acting suspicious as a first-time poster asking for opinions on the value of a highly desirable horn. What's the deal with the serial #? Why are you obviously hiding the specific identity of this horn?

I imagine if you care you can get that neck taken care of with minimal pain. Congrats.

The neck on my '64 Super 20 looked exactly like that. Got a relaq on the neck only, and what a difference, makes the horn look MUCH newer, because the gold lacquer wear is harder to see from a distance. As I recall, it cost about $100, expensive for just the neck, but they did a beautiful job.

[color=blue][b][size=6]Hi..good luck with your new horn.. Although it's not the same as the pearl side key models as used by Cannonball Adderly, it's still one hell of a special horn. If you notice it has the gold inlay on the silver bell. These were special edition horns and played great. Price-wise, and I used to be with USA horn.. I would say that 3K although I feel it's a bit steep for a non dealer without overhead to pay and a guaranty to uphold, it's a very rare alto and you don't often see one in this condition.. so why not.. If you could have gotten it for less that would have been great but it's still worth the 3K if you like it and want it.. one thing though.. one of your advisors said get the neck relacquered..DONT!!! If you really care that much about how the horn looks (your main concern should be how it and you sound NOT how the horn looks) and absolutely want to do something about the neck, give it to your repair person and make sure that they understand you want to have the neck Silver plated NOT lacquered..
good luck.

You have a horn that is, in my opinion, one of the very best Saxophones ever made. Although $3,000.00 is at the high end, the King Super 20's are really starting to peak in price of late. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get near the MkVI price range pretty soon. If it plays and sounds the way your heart desires, then $3,000.00 is a mere pittance to pay.

heres the thing.... i got this horn for $1000, it plays awesome and looks GREAT!. it does need better pads, these are just junk ones on there now. i got it for a investment on a engadgement ring. should i keep it for alittle longer or just sell now. Saxquest.com said around $3000. i dont see why it shouldnt be around the Mark VI price. it plays so awesome.
It has a silver neck and bell, double socket neck, gold inlays, and is serial number 364,982. the neck and everything did clean up really good. i guess it was mostly just tarnish, it came right off.

In the condition shown and described I would bet that you'll get between $2000-$3000. It does need an overhaul, polishing of the silver, etc... to be a really prime example. I would list on eBay with a $2500 reserve and see what happens. Perhaps add a $3000 Buy it Now as someone really wanting a Silversonic might bite.

Get the sax overhauled, ditch the fiance, your s-20 will bring you alot more pleasure
Better yet, get the horn overhauled, keep it, keep the fiance, get her an inexpensive ring, and let her know where the priorities lie. Just kidding, sorta.

JL,
We must be secret soul brothers :D I took your advice (sort of) and ditched the wife, got a Super 20 alto and a girlfriend who loves music... life is now very sweet.
