i've played clarinet for 6 years and oboe for 4 years. i can produce vibratos on both instruments (clarinet does have one even if it is just for jazz) and play in tune, and play in all registers, and all that good stuff. anyway i was thinking about picking up soprano sax, do you guys think my experience with these instruments is enough to just learn the soprano sax without lessons?

I think so . . . as long as you have someone coach you on the embouchure. Your tendency would probably be to play it just like a clarinet, so you'd want to get that right from the beginning.

sdb777,
you have learned how to practice, but some of the technics (as Fred wrote embouchure) good for playing on clarinet are bad habits on the sax (my experience, as i changed without advice of a teacher). So i think you wouldnt need a lesson every week, but a lesson maybe every 3 or 4 month could be helpful...
