I've been listening to Desmond,Hall and Baker play this tune and it's a real gem.
I think this is the third incarnation of the theme. Miles was first and Chick Corea used it as an intro to Spain.
Does anybody have any insight in to the session or know if a lead sheet is available?

Wow, brings back memories. I almost wore out my LP copy of this CTI classic. Roland Hanna on piano, Ron Carter on bass, as I recall.

It would be hard to replicate their sound and the whole understated feel of it, though; I know I'd never attempt it. Beautiful piece.

I love this tune. The first recording of this tune I ever heard was Laurindo Almeida (I probably spelled that wrong) with the Modern Jazz Quartet. If you haven't heard that one, get it. Also, of course Miles on Sketches of Spain.

update
I joined emusic again. (before I bought a download card but this time I went ahead with the subscription and now I have 100 downloads for this month so I'm going nuts listening and downloading all sorts of stuff.
The Concierto de Aranjuez had 129 tracks to go through , so far I've downloaded;
1) Larry Vuckovich Trio -- nice but but he doesn't solo over the changes.
2) The Norwegian Wind Ensemble-- nice Gil Evans-ish transcription.
3) Chick Corea and Bobby McFerrin -- live duet that goes into Spain.
4) Armik -- latin/fusion ,nice pop version.
5) Empire Brass -- nice transcription with guitar solo.
6) Bucky Pizzarelli -- guitar duet -intro only, goes into Spain.
...and so far my favorite (I downloaded the whole album)
7) Ted Nash / Odeon -- This one is sweet with smoking accordion,violin and tuba!

Lots of arrangements of the second movement there. Also worth hearing is the original guitar concerto (http://uk.youtube.com/results?search_query=concierto+de+aranjuez).
