Who now makes Guardala saxophones. As well as earlier B&S or L.A. Sax?
I heard, that this company owns Guardala.

No one now makes Guardala saxes, although I've heard Dave is supposed to start making them again soon. VMI of Germany was making them in association with Dave/LASAX. VMI also makes the B&S and Allora saxes.

Thanks,
Whence the information about Allora?
I did not see any information on these saxes on sites VMI.

VMI makes the Alloras exclusively for the Woodwind & Brasswind company/store in Indiana. Of course they also have their well known webstore.

To the very best of my knowledge VMI (aka: B&S) has been the ONLY maker of Guardala saxes and Dave will evidently continue this relationship in the future and base his new horns on the Medusa body that B&S is just now starting to sell. I have been given no time line as to when he will do this.
LA Sax only marketed his horns, they did not produce them.
If you like the old DG horns (I am gaga over mine), I imagine these new ones are going to be absolutely incredible.

I looked a web-site of L.A. Sax and has found out, that saxophones of CHICAGO JAZZ SERIES are very similar to former assortments Guardala.
For example, Guardala made Artist, Earthtone and New York series. Now L.A. Sax makes Brass, Earthtone and Black. Manufacture of these instruments also is located in Germany.
I think, that these new saxophones of L.A. Sax also are produced in small city Markneukirchen in East Germany, where were produced B&S, Weltklang and saxophones of rare marks, for example, "Simfonia" (silver plated, high F#) and custom-made saxes. And I think, that B&S makes saxophones of old assortment Guardala under the new mark L.A. Sax.
The Chicago series are definitely B&S produced horns, but I wonder if they are based on the 2006 Medusa body or the 2001 body?

I want to specify, saxophones of mark "Sinfonia" (I wrote wrongly "Simfonia") were made by Werner Roth
in city Breitenfeld (East Germany) since 1949 to 1972. 8)

Randall, Please email me, Tsaxflyer@att.net, when you get a chance. I'd like to know if you have the Medusa in yet and what you think of it. I'm still loving both my Guardalas and the Yamaha Bari. Talk to you soon.

Saxy,
I will when I get it, which is still a mystery since mine is the FIRST sterling tenor they are going to make. You can bet I am chomping at the bit to get this one!!!
The laq Medusa horns I played at Stephan Boesken's in Germany were superlative horns though! Very full, rich sound and perfect intonation. The sound is very Selmer-esque with more power. As I have described the Guardalas before, the B&S horns are like the best of Selmer and JK rolled into one.
I am genreally not a fan of laq horns, but these were great. Since my visit 2 weeks ago, Stephan has had other players come in to try them and they are raving about them too.
In particular, I think the Medusa alto is a fine horn. It seemed to be the most improved of the two over the B&S 2001 series, which was the previous pro line from B&S.
I played a sterling silver B&S 2001 tenor some years ago that sticks out in my mind as the very best tenor I have ever played; hence my order on the Medusa 8)
Randall-I agree...The Black nickel Medusa tenor I played at NAMM is one of the best tenors I've ever played..Somewhat MKVIish but with a much better bottom end and great intonation. I loved the Laquered alto (better than the "sand-earth tone" which surprised me)..These are superb, well designed, great sounding horns.

I noticed DG saxophones on wwbw the other day, are these ones actually DG, i mean with B&S stopping production who is making them? And are the new york series that WWBW is advertiseing similar to the old ones with the reallynice engraving on the bell of the NY skyline?
Cheers

Amati is a Czech brand right?

Yes, Amatis are Chech manufactured.
I purchased a 62 for a student of mine. It plays pretty well. My repair tech, who did some repairs and regulation on the horn was surprised by the quality of the horn. Not the best... but not the worst.

I was surprised to see it alive too! Yes Morry is absolutely right. The new DGs are Amatis.
