Anyone tried any of their "Goldbrass" series of Medusas? From what I understand about metallurgy terminology, "Goldbrass" will be very similar to Bronze.
We are on the cusp of ordering several B&S Pro horns to stock again and we have not tried the Goldbrass horns yet and they didnt have them at the NAMM show.
They did have the new Medusa line and it is EXTREMELY impressive. The nice thing is that they are also VERY affordable for a pro sax. We are talking around Yanagisawa prices for the Medusas.

Morry,
I will e-mail you the price. B&S prefers dealers not to list prices on line.

Yeah it does. Best of all, it is only about $100 more compared to $400 - $600 more for the bronze on the Yanis.
Again, we are still debating on what we are going to order but needless to say, my tech/sax player that I brought to NAMM said that the Medusa alto he played (regular model in Satin) was by far his favorite horn at the show.
The new Keilwerth "Black Knight" and the Selmer Reference 54 we VERY close though... but in the end, his favorite was the Medusa and lucky for us, it was by far the most affordable of the bunch.

Which series Dave, 901 or 991 type? Please email me a price for a brass and a gold brass alto.

991 type.
There is also a model 1000 B&S that from what we can tell is around the 901 style design and price.
I will e-mail you those prices.

Dave, what is the Black Knight?
New Keilwerth horn. I think thats what they called it. It was the prototype that they had at the show. Even had black pads although they wont be black in the production model. Very powerful.
My guy played it up against their Nickel Silver versions and he thought the black horn was bigger and brighter.

The Keilwerth model was called "The Shadow".....it was a Nickle Silver Alloy Tenor that had been Black Nickle Plated. It was fully engraved, including the bell, body tube and neck. I was fortunate to be visiting the Keilwerth booth at NAMM while Don Menza was testing them. He played the SX90R in Gold Lacquer, the Nickle Silver Alloy SX90R, and "The Shadow".......he pronounced "The Shadow" the best one of the bunch....
(He gets a HUGE sound.......with an older N.Y. Link.....WOW!!)

I just seem to not be in the shop when he comes in.

Guys-
I previously asked Roland in Germany about the "gold brass" B & S models, he said they have more copper and are good for classical music...more mellow tone..too soft for jazz and rock & roll....

But so does Bronze. So its all a personal preference.

Dave-
I was just repeating what Roland told me.....I understand that it's a subjective thing. I think it would be GREAT if you carried the B&S line....they'll sell A LOT more saxes through someone like you(customer service-oriented and IN THE STATES)..... :D. Roland's great but so far away.....

Sorry if I sounded (typed) short there... had to get offline really quickly so I just hit submit!
I have actually talked quite in depth to a head engineer for a prominent USA made brass instrument factory about the subtleties of this. He said that for the most part, Rose Brass, Gold Brass & Bronze, were the same metal and it was just a marketing term. "Red" Brass usually will have much more copper then the other 3.
Its just interesting though that Yani charges $400 - $500 more for the same type of metal where it is only about $100 more from B&S.

No problem.......that is interesting about the price diff...I never could understand why Yanagisawa charged so much extra for silver plate.....I understand from the R&C website that red brass has more copper, but thought that bronze was a totally different thing.....now I know why I hated chemistry and avoided physics in school...... :D

Hi,
here is a link, where you can see some pictures of the Keilwerth Shadow. Just sroll almost all the way down and wait untill all pictrues have apeared. It will take a little while.

In my eyes a dream of a saxophone. The inside of the bell is silver the engraving is silver and the rest it black nickle plated. The mechanik is renewed.
If i had the money,í´d buy it right away. But it is extremly expensive. The tenor is suppose to cost around 5155 € and the alto 4731€. That´s a lot of money. Maby the price will drop a bit, but it is still a fortune.
