I weighed my low Bb Mark VI once and it came to about 12 lbs. Add another pound or two for a low A.

my horn weighs about 15 or so pounds, it's a YBS 62 with a low a. I'm pretty sure it's gold lacquered.

this is re assuring, because my doctor told me that after back surgery i could only carry/lift 25 pounds, so i can play bari in jazz band without too much worry

thanks guys

You might want to look at some of the topics under bari sax on this forum to get an idea of what's available as far as support of a bari. Your main options seem to be neck strap, shoulder strap, or harness. You may want to consult with your doctor about which would be better for your back. It's one thing lifting 25 pounds, but it's quite another hanging 13-15 pounds on a strap around your neck, or from some kind of harness.

my old conn weighs in at 12 and my old king lemaire ( both about 18-20 years old, both low Bb to high f) at about 11. add about an extra couple pounds for low a's (another pound or so on keilworths for the bell flare)
i use neotech straps all around (satb) and i use a harness for marching bari, and it really reduced the pressure
