Anybody knows the real price of Big Bell altos?
In Europe they are very new. The listprice here is more than 3000 Euros, that's about 3700US$!!!! Case is not included.
For that price you can almost get a Selmer Reference alto and the top models of keilwerth e.g.
Any comments?

Go to http://www.avhub.net/ADwoodwind&Brass1.htm and ask Jim Scimonetti. They specialize in Cannonball Global Series saxes and have an excellent reputation for being customer-focussed. They also participate in this forum.

$3700?!? That's nuts. That's more than TWICE what I paid for a TENOR. I agree that you should look elsewhere, or even consider some of those offered second-hand on eBay or for sale in the Cannonball group on Yahoo (a group which is not affiliated with Cannonball Musical Instruments).

I love my Cannonball tenor, but there's NO WAY I would pay $3700 for an alto!

It wasn't a big bell Global Series, but an Excaliber. However, it was like new and just sold for $500USD on eBay, including case.

That is a ridiculous price. By limiting the horn's availability to walk-in dealers (no internet), CB keeps their prices artificially high.

I agree with Balladeer, buy the Keilwerth.

Big difference there, man. My suggestion is to try all of them if you can! I do think that $3,700 is definitely too much--or at least a lot more than i paid...

You can generally pick up "like new" ones on eBay for around $1400, and that would be my recommendation if someone is trying to get $3000 euros out of you.

They are very good horns, but they aren't worth $3700 -- yet --I bet their next generation will be, though!

Thank you for all your comments.
@Andrew: purchase of a new sax is scheduled sometime this year. Thank you.

So I believe for these target prices (3000+) there no chance to sell one of those instruments to me.

Just got back from a city solo/ensemble contest. One of the semi-local (the other city over) music retailers had some cannonballs on display. Their black tenor was gettin a lotta comments.

The price seemed reasonable considering the feedback on these forums and that I didn't get to test it.

I believe it was US $2000 alto $2200 tenor $3200 bari

Since I need a sax (renting school's bari, and only one I own is a YAS-21 ) I'll prob be checkin them out soon.

Markus,
3700.00 without a case!!! Tell them to take a flying leap!!!
CB big bells in good used condition go for around USD $1000.00~$1,200.00 in alto and tenor. This is low ball, but I have seen a lot of them on Ebay go for around this price. I personally wouldn't pay over this price used.
New prices vary...but I'd say anything in the 1500.00 to 1700.00 range is the top price worth paying.
I should mention that I have noticed a slight upswing in retail prices lately.
Over that and you are getting taken to the cleaners.
I make my comments because I know the wholesale prices on CB's, but I won't post them here!

Also I am a CB fan! My 98 alto is the bomb...bought it used for 900.00 and it outplays every alto I own. It certainly is not a 3700.00 horn though!!!!

I Paid $1600.00 for a brand new Black Nikel Raven Alto three weeks ago at my local high prices music store. I dont know how cannonball works with the music stores, because This music store would have charged 3 grand easy.

$1600 is a very good price. The lowest price I found in the european region was €2600 including case, two necks and a mouthpiece.

Markus,

Write to Tim Glesmann at Saxally (www.saxalley.com). Tim is a Cannonball dealer, and he has very good prices. I suspect he can beat the 2600 Euro price by several hundred Euros, if the prices he quoted me several months ago are any indication. I bought my Cannonball from him, and was very happy with the entire process.
