Hey, I'm working on a piece called Blue Caprice and its got a few places where there is a run of 16th notes at about 90 bpm that go from something like an Eb, F, to alt. G. I'm having trouble transitioning smoothly from the F to the G, partly because of the fingering jump. I was wondering if other people did something different in these situations, or if I should just learn to move my fingers faster.

what fingering are you using for F?
if you use the alt F fingering (tenor) of alt key, and LH1, going from F to G3 is easier.

Use the front F fingering, then finger the G with the auxillary key (just the forefinger) and the F key with the right hand and side Bb....in other words:
F /1 side Bb

i second what kevin says...
i finger high e and f as often as possible on the front. as i tell my students, "front e and f are the gateway to the extended range".
as with all extended range notes, the voicing you use is just as, if not not more important than the fingering.
good luck,
steve
