Hi everybody... One of my friends and I have been discussing starting a band with some of our friends what we have is (all of us double in some form so i'll just list what each person plays).... flute/piano.... clarinet/viola.... guitar/viola.... alto sax/clarinet..... i think what I will do (i have the most theoretical knowledge and the only arranging experience in the group) is use the pian clarinet guitar and sax.... my problem is what i've always used guitars and pianos for are basically the same.... so do i have the guitar playing chords and then the piano playing a harmony to whatever the other to parts are doing.... or am i missing some style of music or song that would use this arrangment (or any arrangment of that group of instruments).... thanks in advance for any tips and or suggestions

Well,
I can't say I know too much about arranging, but have you considered having the guitar play chords, and the pianist play keyboard bass or just walk a line on piano. Or; alternatively; you could have the pianist/keyboard comp and the guitarist doing more of the lick/hook type thing.

Just a thought.
