View Full Version : LA Sop Sax 615 or 650? Help!

A Little Sax

I just bought an LA Sax Sop from someone who bought it new, played it about 10 times, decided to sell dirt cheap. I tried it first. Plays as well as my yani straight sop, and is just as in tune. I took the horn to my repair guy, leak light tested, and only minor adjustments were made.

What I NEED HELP with, is I cannot tell if it is the LA Sax 615 or 650 models. It is a Kameleon finish (green purple, changes in the light) and has 2 necks, and a neck strap. The horn doesn't have a high G key, but I can hit plenty of altissimo without it (never had a need for a high G key...)

This guy said he bought it from WWBW who marked "LA SAX 650" on the tag on the case. However, there is a card inside the case from LA sax, with a mark in pen (yes, a pen) that says model 615. Thus, I have no idea which sax it is. (Now I have an extra soprano sax on my hands, but I can sell the one I do not like as much, and make money! Need to know the model number first.)

Anyone that can be of help?

On a completely different note: I just bought a brand new Series III Matte Lacquered Alto from Saxforte. Awesome. Slightly better than my Series II, and I will only play on Selmer Altos until I die!

Back to the soprano, I feel that the straight neck for the LA sax plays DECIDEDLY better, and I am not really sure why. Comments? Thanks all!

The 650 is keyed to high G.

There's also a 625 that's keyed to high F#.
