My student cannot hang his alto around his neck. Now we are using a stool (and a couple of fake books) to prop his sax in front of him. Does anybody have experience with stands that will hold the sax in position to be played while seated? Ideally it would secure the horn, but allow some motion while playing.

Also, anyone know any sites listing adaptive modifications of saxophones for players with disabilities?

Thanks

I think I saw a posting on here about a strap that works like a bassoon strap that you sit on. Maybe that would help.

This may or may not help, but there is a device that goes over your leg closest to the sax and under the other leg with no strap around your neck.

You can see a picture of it in the book "Tipbook Saxophone" by Hugo Pinksterboer on page 94. ISBN 90-76192-33-2. Its a pretty good book in its own right.

Morry and Bruce,

Thanks for the ideas. I tried to find a picture of the strap that Morry mentioned. Every link went back to WWBW of Music 123, but no pictures.

Bruce, I'm going to look for that book.

What looks promising is the sax stand Charie A (Gig Dust) has at his store. It can be adjusted to hold a sax while playing seated. I think I would still need to figure a way of strapping the horn in securely. Anyone use one of these?
