Im going my own way as a private teacher at the end of this year.
Can I please ask if anyone has any advice on getting into the local schools to teach? Both my old tutors used to do this
Cheers for any advice

Find out the address of your local Schools agency it might go under music for youth should be in yellow pages or contact schools direct there is a music education year book publised by Rhinegold publishing check at your library and or music shop you will find addresses in the book Good luck

Best thing is you can buy all your future instruments thru the assistated purchase scheme that is set up for schools music departments and teachers and get hefty discounts, seriously tho the best of luck,I too want to teach in the future tho not necassarily in schools.

The state schools will have a local educaton authority that supplies peripatetic teachers to its schools. They fix lessons for you in a number of schools and maybe involve you with bands, ensembles and saturday/evening classes. You won't get paid a huge lot, will be subject to the vagaries of their administration and will probably not get much respect or help from some schools - though it does vary from one to the next.
Independent schools are a better bet - approach them directly. I assume you are talking about sax, it is a popular instrument and there is a shortage of experienced, well-qualified teachers. You will effectively be self-employed and need to be very professional in your aproach - time keeping, presentation etc are all important.
Either way, it will probably take time to get busy. Keep your edge with professional playing and by development programmes with one or more of the exam boards.

You will also benefit from becoming a Licensed Instrumental Teacher (which involves filling in forms for disclosure etc) Your Local Education Authority can help with that.
