Hi, as you may know I made a topic to determine which soprano sax to get if I buy one. My conclusion is i'll get an Antigua, which costs about £400, or $650 I think. My teacher says that they require a very tight embousure, and I have an overly tight embousure on my alto. He also says that sopranos are extremely difficult to play. Please tell me anything I need to know about the differences between the two saxes, apart from the obvious, such as pitch and size. I won't stop alto at all, i'll just do soprano as well, purely for fun, as i won't take lessons ( i take lessons for alto). Thanks for your help, Oliver.

Yana sax: I started on sop (over 47 years ago) and then added alto after a year or so of sop. Soprano has been my main horn for all those years.

I agree that soprano requires a tight embouchure, but other than that, I find them no more difficult to play than any other saxophone. Once you ensure your horn is up to the task and your mouthpice/reed set-up works for you, then play it with vigor and forget about all the war-stories you've heard and read about soprano. Good luck.
