I bid on this Winnenden halfheartedly thinking it would end above $500.00 but I guess I own it. Paid $450.00 for it. Should be here by the weekend.

Not really a filly I guess since its 55 years old! Should play nice though with a repad and a few dents popped out.

Received it today. Nice horn in good shape. Basically the same as my 55 tenors with a slightly heftier build on the braces (thicker bell to body brace) and some of the keywork.

This one just needs pads and a couple minor dents removed. thinking of going with coned resos on this one. May or may not keep it after it's done. (yea right!)

I always found it an interesting curiosity that the LH table on the 55 was changed from the Winnenden. but in 57 they switched back to the Winnenden style when they went to RH bell keys and sheet metal keyguards.

Good one!! I was about to bid but I have too many horns. I love my Alto Kohlert (after the '57 but before the Bixley) -- very powerful with original pads that resemble the Conn-O-Res pads.

Will you use the conn pads or others? I wonder which would be better .....?

BTW I am missing a C# rod and keycup for the alto if anyone has a spare? I am reluctant to fit a piece from another horn ...

congrats to you

I've been using regular precision pads with selmer resos on my other tenors without a hitch. the Conn reso pads would be more like the originals but I don't know if the correct sizes are available. My understanding is the Conn pads are only available in a limited range of sizes.

The repad/repair is coming along swimmingly. I decided to use same ol' same ol' selmer resos. They have worked well so far in my other horns and since I may sell it i decide not to go with the coned resos a s some do not like them. I popped a few dents, realigned the bell and resolder the thumbhook and keyguard post after removing some dents. Some lacquer damage from the soldering but I guess that is to be expected. I almost decided to strip the lacquer 100% since it looks like someone took some steel wool or something to the bell but decided to leave it as is and just try to hand polish the bell a bit. I will post pics after the repad is complete.

Finished the repad yesterday. I Let it sit overnight in wooden wedges after seating the pads. Play tested it today. Plays great as I expected a good Kohlert would. Blows real free with my Zagar. I will be playing it daily for the next week or so, tweaking as I go.
