Hi, thank you for your help so far on locating a nice beginner Sax! Has anyone seen the Harmony Deluxe Sax on the Sears.com website. It is item # 08010514000. Wheh I try to search for this model elsewhere I can not locate, not even sure if this is an alto sax. I think I will contact them tomorrow on more info, hope they have .... but does this Sax sound familiar to anyone? I heard that Harmony saxes are pretty decent, esp. for beginner saxes.

Thank you :D
Beekie

I think this instrument is a trumpet.

From the online Sears catalogue:

Crafted for excellent tone and performance, this quality brass instrument features adjustable third finger with slide stop for precision tuning and a silver-plated mouthpiece.

The picture is definatley one of an alto sax. The description I quoted here definately reads more like a trumpet, or other brass instrument.

Beekie, I've never heard of the "Harmony" brand. As far as quality goes, I think it would be a pretty big gamble. These more obscure brands of instruments are mostly manufactured and assembled with questionable quality contol, in various factories located in a number of Asian countries. The quality of the instruments is iffy much of them time. Given that Sears wants $800 for it, you might be better off buying a used, well known brand of student horn like Yamaha or Selmer USA.

You don't say where you are, or if you already play sax or not, but do you have access to a sax teacher who could help you find a horn and perhaps play test one for you? That might be a safer bet.

 I don't know what's so unusual about this. The palm keys on my Committee trumpet are sharp. Wish I had one of them there slide stops for tuning too, so I could bring the pitch down on my "D" 's!

looks like it would bend if you stare at it too long.

SEARS??? Like where my mom used to order clothes for us kids by catalogue??

Oh well, I will go to bed less ignorant tonight

But for what it's worth, I'm not sure I'd buy a sax from anyplace that sells everything from underwears to toaster ovens

Harmony saxophones are made by Selmer Paris. An excellent buy.
