I dont have pictures. but saw this at an antique store today..

Evette & Schaeffer
AMC "M" Buffet Crampton & "C"
18 & 20 Passage du Sd (not sure about the last rwo letters) Cerf
Paris
19611

Looked to be slightly smaller then an alto but basically the same except for an offset octave key..horrible condition and too much money ($225)and would need plenty of work to get back into playing condition. Just curious to see what you experts think..:?...

thanks

Jordan,

I have a 29XXX E & S Soprano Sax which I recall was once dated to 'about' 1925 so the Alto you saw at the antique store was 'probably' pre-1920...

5166

FWIW...I paid $ 100 for my E & S Soprano Sax but that was in 1975 I believe, and it was playable when I bought it.

If it's slightly smaller, and given its age, it's almost certainly high pitch, and thus of no practical use. Not quite sure what you mean by an offset octave key, but older horns often had two octave touches as well, just to confuse the matter further.

Check out saxpics for info on dating it.

It was made either 1910 or 1911.
