Are Keilwerth horns good? Do you prefer them out of any brand? What are your opinions and experiences with them? How do they compare to the major manufactureres?

They have their own sound and feel - you might like it, you might not. The sound, especially, is distinct from the other pro makes but it can fit any kind of music. They are well-engineered and have a few unique features, such as adjustable palm keys. As they are hand-made they do vary from one to the next and quality of set-up from the factory is not always good - exactly the same as Selmer in that regard. New ones always seem to have very sticky pads. Well-worth buying from a good specialist dealer/technician like Sax Alley in the US or Stefan Boeskan in Germany.

The SX models are great, my personal favourites in the pro sax category.
The ST and EX models are beginner and intermediate models made in Eastern Europe, not in Germany as the SX models. With some luck you may find even a very good ST instrument, but you'll get less quality for the lower price (like with anything else).
The Keilwerth's bore design is quite similar to the old Conn saxophones but quite different from the Selmer design. Yamaha and Yanagisawa got their bore design from the Selmers. That's where the "distinct from the other pro makes" comes from!

I agree! I own a keiwerth too, a SX90R with Roled tone roles! Alto Sax! it has a warm sound! really good instrument! but I donīt would buy a ex or st Keilwerth Modell! the SX and SXR (roled tone roles) are really good and with high quality!

I would disagree about the EX models - they are also made in Germany and are very similar to the SX and SXR with a lower quality finish and fewer adjustable keys. The neck is apparently of a slightly different design to suit student/intermediate players, but the EX series are very good horns, broadly comparable in quality to a Yani 901 or Yamaha 62. The ST, though is a completely different instrument, bought in from Taiwan or wherever.

I've always been a Yamaha guy, and just couldn't pass up a great deal on an 875B Custom from WWBW. However, when it got here, it was just too stuffy for me. Not like my old 62 at all. So, I ordered a 62II from USA Horn, and it should be here in a couple of days.
While waiting, though, I went down to my favorite local retailer and tried a SX90R tenor he had there. MAN!!! The Yani 7 metal mouthpiece is the cat's meow for me on that horn. I'm gonna try all the saxes side by side this week, but I'm thinking the Keilwerth may be coming home with me.
Anybody shed any light on the JK bari? I'm thinking Bb model. Talk amongst yourselves.... :)

I got an sx90 alto last december, and I absolutely love the thing. I tried all the major brands and for me, none could compare to the tone and bigness of the sound I can get outta this thing. I love the key layout as I have pretty big hands, and it is soooo much more comfortable to play than my old Yamaha YAS-23(yep, finally upgraded to a pro horn after playing for six years, I'm a junior in HS by the way). Another thing that really sold me on the horn is the response I get with my current setup: a Selmer C** MP, Rovner(Eddie Daniels) Lig, and Hemke 3's. I've heard that there are better setups, but until I get better acquainted with this horn, I think I'll stick to what I've got.
As far as evenness of scale and all that goes, I find I have an incredibly easy time controlling notes in the upper registers and the notes in the low registers speak quite easily with that big, fat, JK tone. Another sax player at my school got a Selmer Serie III about a week before I got my JK, and he's quite jealous of my sound(he told me so!), so I guess that's a pretty good indication of the quality of the horn.
These are just my experiences with the horn so far, and I certainly have a long way to go as a player, but that is just how I feel about the horn.

Go here for their official artist endorser list. These are people who are paid to say they use their saxophones. Quite often it is not exclusive and may pro players promote a given brand, but actually use something else, or a collection of vintage horns, for recordings and concerts.
