Does any one know what this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290208576285&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019) is? Very basic, but I don't think it's a toy. I had considered a bid, just to satisfy my curiosity, but the price has risen too high.

Kind of looks like a curved sopranino. Not many of those made -- could be an interesting buy. I don't speak Italian though, so I cannot be positive.

Extraordinary sassofono sax in miniatura, in brass and chromium plated levers, small beak in ebony, I presume is of the years 50/60..ci are a pair of dents on sides of the bugle, for the rest creed is complete and in good conditions, (manca the liguetta in wood that is used on the small beak in order to play, but creed is of easy reperibilità), supposes is working also, if probably from riguardare..le measures is of cm 28 approximately, until the curving of the small beak that is of cm 12, the width is of cm 12 approximately, and the diameter of the bugle is of cm 6,5 in the part ammaccata..è a truly fascinating object and is not before the time that I see the auction finds all giorni..Buona!!!

I think it is a toy basically, kind of a novelty, but it looks like you could play it if it was fixed up.

Looks a LOT like an Orsi curved sopranino to me. I remember playing one, and it was... well... very approximate.

I've got it. Once again, Saxpics to the rescue.
Appears to be a Kalison curved sopranino from the 30's.

I tried to win it with a last minute bid, but wasn't high enough. It went for around $300.

I was under the impression that these were quite rare and worth much more than $300.

Yes, it went for a very reasonable price, but the buyer also bought a vintage straight nino (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300195966297) recently. Must be building a collection...
