When a beginner start to learn sax, the routine is simple. Which takes very short time to compete. Later on, he need to learn more & more things, which takes longer time to comeplete these things in each session.
Think about these these technique things - Major scale, Minor scale, Blues scale, Pentstonic Scale, Diminished Scale, Dominant Scale. Many important Patterns, Arpeggio. Chords - Major, Minor, Dominant, Diminished chord, Longtone, Overtones, Altissimo, Expressive technique, Play song....etc. there are TONS of things! IMPOSSIBLE to complete all these things within a 2 hours daily session.
I would like to share your expereince, how you contribute on the technique things during practice.
For me, when more & more things need to work with, I will pick up 6 keys each item on day one. Other 6 keys on day two. Day three will come back to the first 6 keys again. If I don't have enough time to finish 6 keys, I'll work on o3 keys only on each item but more difficult key (More # or flat key). If time is really short, not allow me to play 3 keys, I'll pick up 2 diffcult keys (or even one key)
I believe it's a reasonable & effective approach. I was using this approach everyday over the last whole year. I can see some good result now. How about you ? What is your approach to work with ton of things eveyday? Don't tell me you just use 15 mintues to work on scale/patterns. Because there are a lot of different scale & patterns.
