I play with a Shriners concert band consisting of elderly men, most of whom have been playing for years [two of us are late bloomers].
Recently we hired a young music student to conduct. He is only 22 years old. I had to admire his aplomb, walking into the rehearsal hall for the first time to confront all the old farts. Well, he did a great job and gets all our respect. It certainly makes our band unique when we play at hospitals and retirement homes, etc. Nothing very informative about this post but I just had the urge.
