Hello everybody,

I've played alto for almost 5 years now but recently have grown an interest in playing tenor as well. I play a Cannonball Raven Alto and a JodyJazz Classic 7, using a Vandoren ZZ Tenor 3 reed. I'm pretty happy with this setup for a good bright, full sound, and I'd like to find a similar setup for tenor.

I don't actually own a tenor but I've been using the school's Bundy...not exactly the best horn ever but it will do for the moment. I really just need to find a good mouthpiece for right now. I'm looking for a really big sound, maybe Sonny Rollins or Eric Marienthal...something that grabs your attention the moment you hear it but still has a lot of beauty and warmth.

Thanks!
Garrett

Typical choices are the place to start:

Otto Link hard rubber somewhere between a 5 and a 7 depending on your chops
Otto Link Super Tone Master metal between a 5 and a 7 depending on your chops

I would also try the Vandoren Java in either a T45 or T55

The Runyon Custom is a nice middle of the road choice as well.
