Having trouble from higher notes back to middle A

I have been playing alto sax for a few months. At first I was really struggling with the low notes. The low notes are beginning to get a bit easier. But lately, the problem I have been having is in going from almost any note above middle D back to middle A. Middle A, and sometimes middle B, almost always wants to play an octave higher. I have extensively checked my octave key mechanisms and both are working fine. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Aah, you have reached the point where embochure has affected your playing. Basically, you tighten up to play the higher notes, right? The problem is, when you come back down the transition to loosening up a bit and playing the lower notes just doesn't happen. You probably won't wanna hear this, but the best thing you can do is just practice those jumps. Just keep trying to do it again and again, and it should get better as you progress. Good luck!
