Hi everyone. I used to play sax thru middle and high school and into college. Played 15 years back then. I've taken 17 years off since, you know - marriage, kids, divorce) and now that the cycle is complete, I want to start playing again. Jazz is what I'm in to.

I just purchased a new alto, Yani-991. Can anyone recommend a rigorous practice schedule, tutorials, music books, etc. so I can jump start my new passion.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Allan

Basic Jazz conception for saxophone - Lennie Niehaus

Jazz Etudes - Bill Holcombe (with CD)

Your metronome and basic scales (get your fingers and breath together)

Long tones and your ear (build your wind and pitch control)

******

Lessons in the short term would really speed your recovery.

.....and Jamey Aebersold play-alongs, Joe Viola's scale, chord, rhythm studies books, Mark Levine's JAZZ THEORY BOOK.

Start each day with 'bout 15 minutes of long tones.
