I've recently decided to start up on flute and am kind of curious as to whether there is a flute message board similar to this fine sax forum and its clarinet counter on woodwind.org.
When I first started playing sax (from clarinet), I found this site extremely useful in my learning process by just combing through all of the various topics here. And I'm still learning many things and making many discoveries thanks to these message boards.
I think it would be really great if there was a flute equivalent to SotW and the Clarinet BBoard that I could read through to gain some understanding on the workings of the flute.
James Galway used to have a site but it was moved somewhere else and I never bothered to look for it because it was never a very active site anyway. The most active of the flute sites that I have found is actually this "doubling" thread we are on.
Perhaps somebody out there knows of another good one.
I don't know of a board that is devoted to the flute. However, there are two very active mailing lists that you might find useful. "FLUTE" is maintained by Larry Kranz. See his webpage if you think you might want to join: http://www.larrykrantz.com/ "Flutenet" is a somewhat less formal list that was founded by the late Glen Ross, see the webpage: http://www.gwr.org/flutes/ for information.

There is http://superflute.com./wwwboard/
...where James Galway lurks. It is nowhere near as active as the sax or clarinet site, rather serious, and threads drop off the bottom within weeks. A very interesting conversation recently about flute body metals, which will soon be lost forever.
There is http://www.flute.com/messageboard_2002.htm
...which is non-moderated. As such, it is rather informal, with many diversions from flute, including some social chat, 'squabbles', occasional rude behaviour, adolescent ravings, and from time to time, what some would call some very unsavoury appearances by 'trolls'.

Thanks, guys. None of these sites came up on any of my google searches and they look like they could be really good resources. I subscribed to the mailing list and I went through some of the email archives, and there are some very interesting discussions already (I read through about a pint's worth of Haagen Dazs )
Thanks a lot. I think these will really help.
