Hi,

I'm currently restoring a buescher tru-tone bass sax to sell.(No buyer yet...wink wink) I was wondering what you guys or girls thought was more desirable pertaining to the setup of the instrument.

I'm torn as to whether or not I'm going to take the snap-ins out. There is a certain appeal to keeping the sax as original as possible, however, the resonators on them snap-in's are pretty dang small. Personally, I think it'd be better with roo pads and oversized resonators, but from reading peoples reactions on bueschers they always freak out about them being original...especially the snap ins.

As a side note, I'd give members a sotw discount so feel free to inquire about the horn. It's far from being done though.

Thanks

Josh

watch out with pad thickness differences, it may not be true for snaps, but i think it is, as with conn resopads (thanks to all those who helped me with that ;)) if you want to keep it original, keep the original pads in a bag with the horn, theres no point leaving a horn unplayable for originalities sake.
roos and oversied resos sounds like a great idea.

It's not so much the actual pads because those are completely shot. The horn has been in several floods and hasn't been touched in 30 years. There isn't any red rot in the brass though and there is only one dent in the body(which is rare with basses) I'd unsolder them little piggies in the pad cups so that you couldn't put the snaps back in. I'd give them to whoever bought the horn though...if they cared. Basically, the horn would be better without the snaps in my opinion. If the horn were for me I wouldn't hesitate, but since I'm concerned mainly with it's resale value the originality of the horn becomes a concern.

remember, roopads, (to a person who knows what they are) are probably more of a selling point than plain ol' snaps,

Then leave the snaps in; unless of course you wish to sell it for less.

So, in general you'd say that bueschers have more value with them snappys?

If you wish to attract collectors, yes. They're the ones with the bread.

Yup....

Have a look at one (http://www.cybersax.com/4sale.html) that Bear is doing up (scroll down the page a bit)

If you have a complete set of snaps, don't change pads. Snap-in pads and snaps are hard to deal with but keep the horn as original as possible to preserve retail value. The hype associated with Roo pads is beyond belief. Ask any great player not associated with this forum about them. 95 out of 100 have never heard of them.
