Someday, I figure I wouldn't mind a bass saxophone if nothing more than for the curiosity.
So every once in a while I run through the eBay listings. Recently there has been a Vito bass listed. It's a bit different in that it is much shorter as it is laid out differently than the vintage basses. At first I thought "ah hah... guy's got a bari and has it mis-represented" but then after closer look it is apparent it's a bass.
Not that I'm in the mode to purchase one immediately, but does anyone have experience with the Vito bass saxophones? I assume it isn't a re-badged Yamaha :-)
I do think the shortened height takes something away from it.

Hmm... no prior sales history and shipping not calculated. Be careful here.

It didn't look much different than a Selmer bass (which were laid out differently than the old Conns and Bueschers of the '20's - mainly no split bell pads like the vintage basses). I wonder if Selmer did a stencil?
Anyway, $4K is a lot to give to someone new on eBay. I agree with Gandalfe. DAVE

Definitely , I agree that caution would be required in that transaction.
I just found a description of short wrap versus long wrap, in that it is a short wrap french style bass sax.
The seller did reply that it is a high pitched bass saxophone, and not a low pitched one.
The pictures aren't good enough to really tell the condition either.

I don't think vito made anything high-pitched, but I'm no expert on that, so I'm not sure. Btw stay away from high-pitched horns.

That bass shown in the eBay auction is a modern designed saxophone. I don't think the seller knows what he/she is talking about . . . high-pitch my ---. Run from this one! DAVE

Well, sometimes it pays to be a contrarian. Those pics look legit to me, and who cares if the seller knows what he's talking about? If he did, he'd probably be listing that horn for much more. If I were in the market for a bass sax I'd be asking this guy for his number and having a long chat with him about it.

The Vito marked bass saxophones are Beaugnier stencils. I've got one that I'm playing at school at the moment, decent quality sax with a good bass sax tone and decent intonation. I've been very pleased with it.

Maybe . . . but I wonder if the photos show a bass sax that the seller owns. DAVE
