My friend has nice The Martin alto with about 80-85% original lacquer, no real dings or dent, and in excellent playing condition. He didn't give me the serial number, but he said he was sure that it was late in the run. Anyone give me an idea of its value? I checked ebay completed items, but there weren't enough to get a real idea.

I've been shopping Martin Altos for a while. Someone snatched one out of our local paper out from under my nose for $300. Arghhh!!
Worldwide Sax has a late model Martin Alto for $999 raw or $1299 reconditioned, and Vintage Sax has a mid-run alto for $1800.
All in all I'd say if you get a good condition late (50's)Martin Alto for under a grand you're doing well. It all depends on the shape the instrument is in of course.[/list]
