Not necessarily tech stuff or horn repair (things that require a lot of skill and tools) but more along the line of
1 reed storage (5 bari sax reed case $50 on sale!!)http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?t=6015
2 mouthpiece patches
3 horn stands
4 ??
There are a few threads scattered throughout the site with money saving ideas but it would be nice to have them all together.
Harmony Central Forums has a DIY forum

I'll look into this and present it to the staff for consideration. Being part Scottish, I do like to save money and accomplish things on the cheap myself! ;)

Although we are really trying to streamline our forums a bit rather than add more of them, this idea appeals to me.

Would I like a forum with (sax-related) money saving ideas??? Does the Pope wear a funny hat?? Half Yorkshire/Half Scottish/some relatively minor GAS issues (me) - this is very easily the best idea any of you lot have had since I first visited the site!! And the whinging of skinflints and their masterplans for saving money are absolutely brilliant for taking the **** out of!! Fantastic!!

Great idea BUT with all the GAS and SHE this is not about saving $$ being the same as spending less, it will end up as spending the same amount but hopefully getting more stuff out of it. :D

Exactly, Grumpie. This is EXACTLY wot SOTW is supposed to be about. I'm so in favour of this new forum thingy i'm considering having teeshirts printed. And when the first suggestions for constructing m/p patches out of tree bark come in, I swear, I might just wet myself..

The Plumbers Tape thread has a few ideas.http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?t=63743
I don't know if you would want to include simple repairs into a Frugal Forum?
----
I found a tacky hanging chandelier (the kind people had over there dinner table in the 70's and 80's) with 18 3.5x8.75 smoked glass rectangles. One side was rounded but the other is perfectly flat. Now I just need a case/bag to put it in or perhaps something like a rubber band to hold the reeds flat.
----
Microphone cases and old tape cases can work as clarinet gig bags. I'll put some thin foam or small bubble wrap between the joints. The bell can go over the top of the upper joint.
I only do this with "beater" plastic clarinets for vacations etc.

you can make them smaller with Photoshop or other software fit to that purpose just look for a scroll menu saying image size and make it into 500 max (width or length)
